1:00 DISMISSAL for ALL EXTENDED DAY ELEMENTARY FULL-DAY YCC & NEST HOLIDAY BREAK BEGINS SCHOOL RESUMES Thursday, January 3
Reflections on our Parent Community from Mary Lou This week we were wonderfully busy with our parent community. On Friday we celebrated the holidays together at our Evening with Friends, enjoying the highest turnout ever for this event. It was so nice to connect with you and be reminded me of how fun and special our parent community is. Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday brought parents in for three fabulous Parent Coffees. Gerry Leonard was spectacular during both our Lower Elementary and Upper Elementary Previews, and Marisa Gallagher and Joan Gwillim were insightful, exact and so helpful in our discussion of the Montessori Approach to Discipline. Carol Ebersol’s parents joined us for gingerbread house decorating, our UEL parents organized and spread an amazing teacher appreciation luncheon, and our Elementary parents came together for our annual Holiday Concert. It was a busy week indeed. Being a Cobb School parent requires great curiosity and commitment. We ask our parents to attend educational events, learn all they can about Montessori and work together in a myriad of ways. It is no small undertaking to be a part of this school. Thank you for your contributions and for your commitment.

Please click “Watch Trailer” and be taken away for five short minutes into the beautiful world of Montessori. You won’t regret it. “Building the Pink Tower is a documentary film project that reimagines schools and learning through the lens of Montessori education. In a climate of concern and criticism about schools, Building the Pink Tower shines a light on what we want in education: eager learning, creative thinking, and collaborative work. The film will examine how Montessori schools nurture the imagination of children and lay a solid foundation for their success in life.” Click acorn to view slideshow.
The Cobb School Thanks... ...everyone who joined us for Evening with Friends! What a memorable night of good food and good company. Special thanks to Kitty Friedman and Mary Lou Cobb for your welcoming, personal statements. ...everyone who joined us for the UEL Preview. We learned so much about the Elementary program in just one hour. If you couldn’t make the meeting but want to learn more, please schedule an appointment. ...Miss Carol’s parents who were able to join us for gingerbread house decorating! Thank you for bringing in goodies and working with our eager students. They love making their own wonderful creations.
Important Medical Information ...The State of CT insists all children under 5 receive an annual flu shot. For your child to come to school on January 3, 2013, you must have presented evidence of your child’s flu shot or submitted a signed religious exemption statement or medical exemption letter. No child without this on file will be able to attend school. Please be sure to submit your information to Miss Margaret as soon as possible. Thank you!
Yoezerling Primary School in Bhutan ...Susan Stephenson, our loyal friend and connection to our sister school in Bhutan, shared this Christmas song she and her family wrote and performed. Our own Miss Pemba, as well as many pictures from Bhutan, including the children at Yoezerling, appear as well.
...everyone who came to our Parent Coffee on the Montessori Approach to Discipline. Special thanks to Joan and Mrs. Gallagher for joining the discussion. Mark your calendars for our next Coffee on January 9!
