Besides keyword research, good SEO strategy also involves optimizing the page for that particular keyword. Before optimizing a page for a particular keyword the following are the 7 tips to be kept in mind. For the purpose of this post, let us make the assumption that we are trying to optimize a keyword "Sock knitting methods". 1. Keyword in url: Having the keyword in url is really important. The keyword could either be in a particular page that we are trying to get ranked or it could be in the main domain. 2. Keyword in title: The title tag is the second most important factor. It is necessary to have keyword in the title because it will be an indication to Google bot as to what it can expect from the page or the post. In our case, the title could be either kept simple with just the main keywords or we could write something more descriptive such as "Sock knitting methods - Best methods for knitting socks". Thus by having a keyword in the title, the Google bot understands what the title or the topic of our page or post is going to be about. 3. Keyword in H1 Tag: The header tags are the third most important factor to be optimized properly. There are different header tags with H1 being the most important. Usually the title tags are H1 tags. 4. Keywords in H2 TAG: Continuing with the header tags, we also need H2 Tags in posts. So if we have a main topic or the H1 TAG and if we break the topic into many sub-topics they will be H2 TAGS. Our post can have many H2 TAGS and they need not be keyword stuffed. In the case of our example, our H2 TAG could be "Different types of sock knitting methods." 5. Keywords in ALT TAGS: Images will always be present in any post or pages. Alternate names are given for images which are nothing but our keywords that we are trying to rank for and thus even images need to be optimized. If you have many images in a post, don’t keyword stuff the post by optimizing all the images with the same keyword name. 6. Keywords in Meta description: The description tags or the meta description is the one that shows up in the search results along with the title tags. Your SEO gets a boost by having the keywords in the meta description. It is better to have the keyword towards the start of meta description rather than the middle or the end. The length of meta description is limited to 160 words by Google. In our example, it could be "Sock Knitting methods- Discover the secrets for knitting the socks and get a free eBook".

7. Decorative TAGS: The decoration tags are bold, italicize etc. Keywords are always bolded at the beginning of the post or pages. Keywords can also be italicized. By striking a perfect balance between readability and for the purpose of machine, you can achieve good SEO. By machine I mean the Google bot and by humans I mean the readers. While the Google bot needs to find that the topic of the post is relevant for the keyword so that it can rank it accordingly, the readers should not feel anything missing or unusual while reading the post.
