Helpful Tip The Right Coffee Table Size The coffee table is usually the last piece to complete your living room furnishing; besides the style, shape, and material, there are several things you will need to consider when choosing the appropriate coffee table so you can avoid future inconveniences. 1. Height of your sofa seat

As a rule of thumb, your coffee table height should be around the height of your seating nearby, usually 16-18 inches high, or 1 or 2 inches lower than your seat. If you like to serve food or drink regularly on the coffee table, a 20-21 inches high table would probably provide easier access. 2. Length of your sofa seat

The length of your coffee table should be around twothirds of the sofa seat length (not counting arms). This will give you enough room to remove around the table, and also provide easy access for seated people. 3. Edge to edge distance

Be sure to leave enough room so people can move around the coffee table without bumping into the table every time. Leave about 18 inches of distance from the edge of your sofa to the edge of the coffee table, and about 24-30 inches from the coffee table to the edge of the TV stand, media cabinet, or other surrounding furniture. If you only have a love seat or have other type of seating (such as benches or chairs), the same general rules apply. So get out your measuring tape, write down those numbers, and go shop for your coffee table.

Trend Report In December 2013, Pantone, the global authority of colors, revealed the color of 2014: Radiant Orchid, with Pantone number 18-3324. In the Pantone press release, they stated “an enchanting harmony of fuchsia, purple and pink undertones, Radiant Orchid inspires confidence and emanates great joy, love and health. It is a captivating purple, one that draws you in with its beguiling charm. An invitation to innovation, Radiant Orchid encourages expanded creativity and originality, which is increasingly valued in today’s society.” According to the 50 Years in Color report created by Pantone, the Radiant Orchid was one of the colors chosen to represent “The Vibrant ‘80s” when economic upturned and vibrant colors returned. From the Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2014, the return of vibrant colors is evident, and will be more obvious with the bright jewel tones for Summer 2014.

Follow the trend and incorporate the color of 2014 into your home decoration! Use the paint color as accent wall if you feel bold and love bright colors, or simply use accent pieces and accessories to lit up your spaces if you prefer a more subtle incorporation. This color palette involves the Radiant Orchid and 3 neutral colors: gray, beige, and taupe. In reference to the above image, gray is used on the wall and framed photography, Radiant Orchid is on the accent pillow and the actual orchid, beige used on the other pillows and the wall behind the chest, and taupe is used on the blanket.

Do It yourself project Changing cabinet knobs and pulls Changing the knobs and handle pulls is the easiest way to update the look and feel of your furniture, whether it’s kitchen cabinet, bathroom vanity, the dinning room buffet/ hutch, night stand, dresser, or even office desk. To remove knobs or handle pulls, simply loosen the screws on the back of the door/ drawer until you can remove the hardware. Then, you can place the new knobs or pulls in the existing holes, and reattach the screws. If you wish to place the new knobs or pulls somewhere else instead of the original location, you need to fill in the holes and painted it over so you won’t see them. If you want to replace a knob (1 hole) with a handle (2 holes), you will need to drill a new hole that is lined up with the other hole. But if you want to change the location (sometimes the knobs or pulls are centered on the drawers), you will need to drill 2 holes. Measurement is the key to achieve professional look on your update cabinet, be sure to use measuring and leveling tool, or purchase a cabinet template from your local hardware store.
