The first-ever Junior Russell Cup—a children’s event in the tradition of the 100-year old annual Russell Cup Track Meet—will be held on Friday, April 5, at 3:30 p.m. at Carpinteria High School stadium. To participate, parents should contact the teacher or principal of the student’s school. Families and kids are encouraged to attend the event, even if they are not competing, to cheer on youth athletes and support local schools.

Scholar-Athlete of the Year Rivers Sheehan will attend Harvard in the fall.

Cate School senior Rivers Sheehan was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year at this week’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table luncheon. Sheehan, who competes in track and field, has a grade point average of 4.5 and plans to attend Harvard University in the fall. The former Russell Cup Most Valuable award winner plans to study public or global health with minors in math and art.
