Your occupation should influence this decision. For example, an electrician would want to consider a ceramic band because it does not conduct electricity. People with active lifestyles might want to avoid silver, which is the softest metal. Similarly, those that work extensively with their hands may want to consider getting an additional, inexpensive band solely to wear at work. How should I judge the value of a ring? The best cut reflects the maximum amount of light and gives the stone its brilliance. For diamonds, the less color a stone has, the higher its value. A stone’s clarity is affected by surface blemishes and interior inclusions, which interfere with light passage and lower its value. Finally, carats, or the measure of a stone’s weight, will influence the stone’s value.

Try on tuxedos - confirm all articles of clothing and accessories have been supplied  Cut cheques for remaining vendor payments

ONE DAY TO GO  Attend ceremony rehearsal  Distribute the wedding-day itinerary to all parents, attendants, and other involved parties  Hand over remaining accessories to wedding planner, church coordinator, or other organizer  Attend rehearsal dinner  Present attendants with their gifts at the rehearsal dinner  Go to bed early so you will be well rested for the amazing day that lies ahead of you

Borrow a piece of jewelry, a handkerchief or part of your wedding attire from a married friend. “SOMETHING BLUE” This tradition dates back to biblical times when blue stood for purity and fidelity. In times past the entire dress was blue, then it became a blue band on the hem. Today, most brides wear blue in their garter to satisfy this tradition. “SIXPENCE IN THE SHOE” Placing a silver sixpence in the bride’s left shoe was done to bring wealth to the bride’s marriage. 14

Can we see a picture of the facility set up for a wedding? It is even better if you can you stop by a wedding in progress to preview the facility in action. Are there restrictions on what we can do to decorate? Sometimes facilities have restrictions on the use of candles and other decorations. Most commonly there are restrictions on what can be used for the send-off (e.g., rice). Are you planning on any remodels or renovations before our wedding? You don’t want to plan for one color scheme and find the carpet and walls are completely different than you expected. What is the rental fee? Find out what is included, how much the deposit is, and when the balance is due.

How many hours are included in the rental agreement? Sometimes there are a set number of hours and facilities will charge for each additional hour. Where should the musicians set up? Make sure the space properly accommodates your musicians and that they have access to electricity. Also verify that the dance floor is large enough to accommodate your number of guests.

Most hotels give discounts for groups of seven or more guest rooms. First, let the hotel know approximately how many rooms your guests will need. Then, send an E-mail to your out-of-town

guests with the hotel’s special room rate and reservation number so that guests can arrange their own reservations. Please be sure to inform your guests that they need to contact the hotel at least two weeks prior to the wedding. How far do you travel? Companies work within a certain radius, and charge an extra fee for outside that radius which includes the extra mileage and labor for each staff member. What is included in the price? Catering services often offer a variety of packages with different service options: higher end packages for formal services that include china dishes; environmentally friendly packages for couples wanting biodegradable, disposable dishes; etc. Will there be a coffee station or pot of coffee on table? Will there be ice water? Have your caterer walk through every last detail with you. Will the person I’ve been working with be at our wedding? Make sure you meet the person who will be on site.

TIPPING YOUR vendors: Tipping is never mandatory (unless your contract warrants it). But if a vendor went above and beyond for you, let them know with a little extra cash.

Choose a shop that will make sure you look stunning in a perfectly fitted gown. Have you seen brides pulling up their strapless gowns throughout the day? That does not happen when properly fitted by professionals.

When do they order the dress? Some shops may take the order but wait to put it through until closer to your wedding day. Make sure your gown will be ordered with plenty of time to spare. How will the dress look when picked up? Find out if the gown will be steamed or pressed, whether the shop takes steps to preserve the gown’s shape, and whether the dress bag will be roomy enough to prevent crushing.

Who will be doing the finish work and sewing? Find out if the shop does their own alterations or if they hire out the service. Does the dress leave the shop? If the gown never leaves the shop, it will stay more pristine. If you or your shop work with an in-home seamstress ask about smoking and pets.

If your bridesmaids come in many shapes and wear all different sizes, consider picking the color and fabric for the dresses and allow them to choose their own style. If un-identical dresses is not something you want, consider dresses in an A-line style which is flattering to all body types and sizes. You could also consider having your bridesmaids wear identical wraps.

What is the delivery fee?

Should I order extras?

The fee varies depending on when and where it will be delivered.

Round up your guest list when estimating some service items. Is a security deposit required? How much? When is it refundable? Who sets up? Find out if you, your venue’s staff, or the rental company is responsible for set up. There is often a fee to have the rental company set up, however they know precisely how things are put together and are adept at completing it in a timely, efficient manner.

When do items need to be returned? Typically companies need items returned the Monday following the event. Is there a fee for broken pieces / or damages? Find out the rate for replacing broken pieces. Is there anything I am forgetting to order? Your professional will go over everything you might need. Commonly forgotten items include tablecloths for the gift table and cake table, glassware, and adequate power for the photobooth, caterer, and band.

Who should wear tuxedos? Traditionally the Groom, Groomsmen, Ushers, Fathers, and Ring Bearer will all be in tuxedos. If you have Grandfathers or other extended family members attending, you might consider having them wear tuxedos as well. This way your photographer will capture some family portraits with everyone looking their very best. What is the final fitting? When is it? A final fitting is recommended so that your groomsmen can try on the actual tuxedo. It usually takes place a day or two before the wedding. Any needed adjustments can be taken care of before the wedding. When do the men have to be measured for their tuxedos? Measurements for the Groomsmen’s tuxedos should be in no later than 4-6 weeks prior to the wedding.
