WHAT TO ASK: What type of ring(s) would be best for my lifestyle? Your occupation should influence this decision. For example, an electrician would want to consider a ceramic band because it does not conduct electricity. People with active lifestyles might want to avoid silver, which is the softest metal. Similarly, those that work extensively with their hands may want to consider getting an additional, inexpensive band solely to wear at work. How should I judge the value of a ring? The best cut reflects the maximum amount of light and gives the stone its brilliance. For diamonds, the less color a stone has, the higher its value. A stone’s clarity is affected by surface blemishes and interior inclusions, which interfere with light passage and lower its value. Finally, carats, or the measure of a stone’s weight, will influence the stone’s value.

It can be difficult to get the number of wedding guests down to a reasonable number. Here are some tips to help you create your list. WHAT TO ASK: Am I buying a custom fit? You are not shopping for just a dress, but a fit as well. Choose a shop that will make sure you look stunning in a perfectly fitted gown. Have you seen brides pulling up their strapless gowns throughout the day? That does not happen when properly fitted by professionals. Who will be doing the finish work and sewing? Find out if the shop does their own alterations or if they hire out the service. Does the dress leave the shop? If the gown never leaves the shop, it will stay more pristine. If you or your shop work with an in-home seamstress ask about smoking and pets.

If your bridesmaids come in many shapes and wear all different sizes, consider picking the color and fabric for the dresses and allow them to choose their own style. If un-identical dresses is not something you want, consider dresses in an A-line style which is flattering to all body types and sizes. You could also consider having your bridesmaids wear identical wraps.

With that in mind, you not only need to find a photographer that you feel comfortable with but you also need to know what photo options are available and what shots should not be missed. No other vendor will have as lasting role in your wedding as your wedding photographer.


Look at the entire range of their work, especially for the products you plan on purchasing. Make sure the finalized product matches your style and that the images are sharp, well framed, and well lit. When do I get the digital files? Figure out how long their turnaround typically is, what recourse is available if you do not receive photos within the specified time frame, and whether you will see the photos before or after they have been touched up.

Will I have rights to the digital files? When you hire a photographer, you pay for the creation of the photography, not always the copyrights. If you are artistically inclined and want to create your own projects, find a photographer that will give you the rights. Find out about your options, the turnaround time, the best way to choose photos, and all fees involved. How many weddings have you photographed? You will need to pass this along to whomever is cutting your cake so you do not run out of cake or have too much leftover. Do they supply decorative cake knives? Some supply cake knives. As a keepsake, you may want to purchase a specialty cake serving set complete with engraved monogram and wedding date. Will the cake deliverer put the floral decorations on or will the florist? Both are able to provide the service, but make sure you pin down who is responsible so everyone is clear. Do they have other rentals available? Some bakers also have candles, towers, fountains and other decorative items available to complete the presentation.

Wedding tuxedos can be reserved at any time; at least 3-4 months prior to the wedding is recommended. Tuxedo styles are selected after the Bride has chosen her dress and the color of the Bridesmaids’ dresses. Who should wear tuxedos? Traditionally the Groom, Groomsmen, Ushers, Fathers, and Ring Bearer will all be in tuxedos. If you have Grandfathers or other extended family members attending, you might consider having them wear tuxedos as well. This way your photographer will capture some family portraits with everyone looking their very best.

What is the final fitting? When is it? A final fitting is recommended so that your groomsmen can try on the actual tuxedo. It usually takes place a day or two before the wedding. Any needed adjustments can be taken care of before the wedding. When do the men have to be measured for their tuxedos? Measurements for the Groomsmen’s tuxedos should be in no later than 4-6 weeks prior to the wedding. How will we order tuxedos for our out-of-town Groomsmen? The tuxedos should be ordered in the city where the wedding is taking place. Members of the wedding party living out of town should be professionally measured at their local formalwear or menswear store. The measurements can be called in, sent in, or submitted online. The tuxedos will be ready for the final fitting when your groomsmen come to town for the wedding. Is an appointment necessary? If the men plan on coming in as a group, it’s a good idea to call ahead and schedule an appointment. If they’ll be coming in on an individual basis, it is generally not necessary to make an appointment.
