Covered By the Blood- Set Free Series booklet 3 Our sins are not forgiven because God overlooks what we have done, but because He sees the Blood of Christ!
Day of Atonement The word blood has been associated with the idea of atonement, throughout the Old Testament. In fact there was a specific day set aside as the "Day of Atonement" during which sacrifices were made and blood presented to God as the atonement for man's sins. In Leviticus chapter 16-we see where on the Day of Atonement that blood was taken by the high priest into the Most Holy Place and sprinkled before the Lord seven times. In seeing this we should understand that although the sin offering was offered publicly in the court of the tabernacle and could be seen by everyone; the Lord commanded that no man should enter into the tabernacle except for the high priest. The high priest represented a type of the Lord Jesus in His redemptive work. (see Hebrews 9:11-12) His one responsibility was to present the blood to God as something He (God) had accepted. Therefore the blood is for God and not us. God's holiness and righteousness, demands that a sinless life should be given for man. Blood is the source of (physical) life and has to be shed for me and my sins, so that God will be satisfied. It is God who requires it and He is a just and righteous God. Who are we that we might question Him? It is worth mentioning here then; that the Blood of Christ wholly satisfies God and if it satisfies God-it must satisfy us. The blood not only satisfies God but it also justifies us (the sinner). Eph 1:7 "In Him we have redemption through His Blood, the forgiveness of sins according to the riches of His grace." I Peter 1:18-19 "knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver, or gold, from your aimless conduct received by the traditions of your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, as a lamb without blemish and without spot. Colossians 1:14 "in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:20 "and by Him (Jesus) to reconcile all things to Himself (God), by Him (Jesus), whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His Cross. Eph 2:14 "For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation. (That which separated man from God caused by the fall of Adam in the garden of Eden)
Our Lord's blood broke down that barrier which stood between God and Man. We therefore now have peace with God and have been justified (made right with Him) through the blood of Christ. There is no other way that is acceptable by God other than the blood of Jesus in order for you or I to have access to Him and eternal life. Man's attempt to add to this requirement by God is the basis for "false religion" and must be rejected. It is by His blood that we might boldly go to the throne of God and by His blood only! Romans 5:1 "Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." Romans 5:9 “Much more than having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him"
Saved By the Blood All which needs to be done for you and I to be reconciled back to God has been done through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. We have been saved by His blood and delivered by the cross. What I mean by that is this. God has readily accepted the blood of Christ as the payment for the sin of mankind which occurred in the Garden of Eden. Why the blood? I don't know the answer to that question. What we do know is that blood is life giving and that God has decided to put a premium value upon it. So then we have been saved by the blood of Jesus Christ. We are not saved by self effort, attempts at righteousness nor zeal to be holy. We are saved by the blood of Christ and His blood is all that is acceptable to God for our salvation. Therefore we are to have confidence in that salvation. That salvation is by faith as is our deliverance from sin. The cross is the mechanism by which God crucifies our flesh so that His Spirit might live through us.
We are made free by the blood shed on the cross by Jesus Christ
