CBA girls soccer gets revenge, rips J-D

Now the Fayetteville-Manlius girls tennis win streak sits at 281 consecutive matches, this following last Thursday’s contest against Auburn where the Hornets worked its way to a 6-1 victory over the Maroons. East Syracuse-Minoa had a pair of matches last week, falling 5-2 to Fulton and 6-1 to Mexico. In the Section III team tournaments, F-M is the top seed in Class A, meeting no. 8 seed Oswego in the quarterfinals, while J-D sits on the no. 3 seed in Class B and awaits a quarterfinal against Westhill or South Jefferson. Every single moment since the Jamesville-DeWitt girls soccer team’s 9-0 destruction of Christian Brothers Academy ended on Sept. 16, the Brothers had waited for its chance at payback. The 22-day wait for the rematch ended on Friday afternoon, when the Brothers went to J-D - and got exactly what it wished for, as a hat trick by freshman Eva Gordon keyed a 5-1 victory over the Red Rams. Neither J-D nor CBA tripped up in the prelude to their rematch. The Red Rams had, by its high standards, a close encounter in last Tuesday’s game with Cortland, but still prevailed 2-0 over the Purple Tigers, while the Brothers had gone to Homer and beat the Trojans 3-1.

CBA, meanwhile, knew what kind of challenge 6-1-1 Homer would provide and attacked hard from the start, that approach paying off with a pair of early goals that created a 2-0 halftime edge. What was a great week for CBA concluded mere hours after the J-D payback as, on Saturday, it went to Rochester and beat long-time power Aquinas by a score of 4-2. It was 1-1 at the break, but in the second half the Brothers’ speed and skill proved too much for the Irish to handle. Koval again stood out, earning two goals and one assist, as McConnell added one goal and one assist and Gait also converted.
