Earlier this year, they received approval from the City to expand Dory Deli (adjacent to the Newport Beach Pier), and last year, they rebranded The Stag Bar + Kitchen, the original (and oldest) bar in Orange County, established in 1908. As an example of putting his philanthropic philosophy into play, when they purchased Malarky’s Irish Pub on the peninsula they made a point of continuing with the Pub’s 40-year tradition of sponsoring a table for the Newport Beach Police Appreciation Breakfast. “Our mission from the beginning has been to add value to each of our locations through proactive community involvement. It’s also a priority for us to continue with positive, long-standing traditions established within the various neighborhoods we’ve become an integral part of here in Newport Beach as well as our other locations,” says Mario. “Part of Lounge Group’s core business model is to promote its businesses through charitable acts and community service. As a result, not only have we seen positive feedback from the community, we’ve also seen an increase in sales thanks to our commitment to responsible, community-minded business practices.” This year, Malarky’s is celebrating its 40-year anniversary after being established in September of 1977. Malarky’s is the only traditional Irish pub in the Newport Beach Peninsula and has always been a special place for Mario. It's the pub where he would hang out and the one he dreamed of owning many years ago, and at only 43, making that dream come true is one of his greatest accomplishments - a date with destiny. “Being able to continue Malarky’s traditions was important to my partner Brent Ranek and me,” he says. “We recognized and value Malarky’s impact on the local Newport Beach culture. Many of the employees and patrons have been coming in for decades, there are pictures of our regulars all over our walls. People have been coming for 40 years and now we see their children coming in which is pretty special. The Malarky’s tradition is staying alive one generation after another, it’s very satisfying for us to be able to make that happen.” It’s a good thing for Newport the prodigal son returned home.
