consider expanding to Manhattan Beach because the right space wasn’t open to them. Complete Women Care, an entirely female operated OB-GYN with a 24-hour OB emergency room, is opening their fourth branch in the building. Southern California Reproductive Center is a highly-rated and
world-renowned fertility group out of Beverly Hills. Their new Manhattan Medical Center office will provide local families who are struggling to get pregnant with fertility treatments and consultations right in their backyard. The most significant impact of the MMC is the expansion of

the UCLA Medical Group. Their former building used to house both adult and pediatric care. Now, the new 6,200 sqft office at the MMC includes 18 exam rooms and 7 physicians, including a psychiatrist, all solely dedicated to pediatrics. Next is the plan to refurbish the old building to expand the adult medical center, as well. “UCLA’s expansion shows their investment in the community,” Apostol says. The MMC is also the future home of a podiatrist, an optometrist, and a handful of other doctors that couldn’t come to Manhattan before for lack of space. With Apostol’s Manhattan Medical Center, we’ll see an elevation in medical services available for all MB residents. While the MMC makes medical services more easily accessible, one of the most significant daily changes to MB resident lives is the explosion of high-end grocery stores. While the dining scene in Manhattan truly sets us apart from other beach cities, locals still need a variety of options to buy groceries for their families. Along with the chain grocery stores like Vons, Bristol Farms, and Trader Joe’s, Grow on Sepulveda has been the only specialty grocery store in Manhattan since 2006. Owner Barry Fisher tells me
that, “A bag a week is all we ask. To keep our doors open, we need community support.” Residents have enjoyed Grow’s intimate environment and choice selection of top-notch produce, cuts of meat, and healthful grocery items. These stores have served Manhattan Beach well for years, but when space opened up on Sepulveda, Jim Dillavou and Paragon aimed for another grocery store. Gelson’s is known as an upscale, sustainable, and health-oriented neighborhood market. They also have a reputation for unparalleled customer service. As such, Manhattan Beach residents were largely in approval of the addition; the project was greenlit with little city pushback. “The site sits in the heart of Manhattan Beach’s commercial corridor, and the City was looking to ‘activate’ that area with high-quality, pedestrian-friendly uses,” Dillavou says. “We believed that daily needs retail would be a great way to jumpstart the revitalization of that portion of the Sepulveda commercial corridor while concurrently providing residents in that part of town with convenient grocery options. Since the completion of the Gelson’s project, there have been a number of other improvement projects along Sepulveda which in the long term will improve the quality and convenience of the commercial offerings available to our residents within our city limits.” Another improvement in everyday life for Manhattan Beachers is coming in the form of the Manhattan Village reconstruction. It’s already home to top retailers such as Apple, Macy’s, Sephora, and Tommy Bahama. Sher Willis, the Marketing & Specialty Leasing Manager, filled me in on all the exciting new stores and restaurants that are coming
