Quintets 63rd Season

2022/23

SERIES

Dear Friends, We are so pleased to share our 2022–2023 season with you! Preparations for this amazing season began over two years ago, at a time when our lives were forever impacted by a pandemic. The beauty of the 2022–2023 season is attributed to the perseverance and meticulous selection by the CMH Artistic Directors, our Board of Directors, in planning this season for you, in honor of the resilience of music audiences everywhere. Highlights of our 63rd season include seven quintets: Brahms, Shostakovich, Dohnányi, Mozart, Beethoven, Mendelssohn — quintets for piano, for winds, and strings! For these, celebrated guests will lend us their artistry: pianists Garrick Ohlsson and Roman Rabinovich and violist Matthew Lipman. The wind ensemble of the renowned Academy of St Martin in the Fields will offer us two quintets for winds and piano. This nine-concert season also features the premiere of a new piano trio by Shepherd School of music composer Karim Al-Zand, co-commissioned by Chamber Music Houston for this season’s Emerging Young Ensemble, the Merz Piano Trio. New to our series: the British vocal ensemble Voces8 and, from Poland, the Apollon Musagète Quartet. And making a welcome return to our Houston stage: the Pavel Haas Quartet from Prague, Cuarteto Casals from Barcelona, and the USA’s own Escher Quartet, Calidore Quartet, and the legendary Emerson String Quartet in its farewell season. There is so much to be enjoyed here and we look forward to experiencing it all with you! Sincerely,

KERRYN BOOTH Executive Director

Special thanks to the following organizations for their support.
