BARRA OF MENDOCINO: Following in the footsteps of his father, Antonio Barra, and his maternal grandfather, Giuseppe Rovera (who immigrated to Mendocino County from Piedmont, Italy in 1906), Charlie began farming grapes in the mid-1940s. By 1954, he had purchased Redwood Valley Vineyards, the ranch that is home to over 175 acres of organically grown Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese, Merlot, Petite Sirah, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Muscat Canelli. In 1955, when Charlie began planting new vines, he was fortunate to be able to rely on the practical experience of his father and grandfather to help him make the right choice in selecting rootstock and varietal clones. These choices, over the years, have proven that he made the right ones. Choosing to farm organically is just now beginning to pay off with consumer demand growing rapidly for wines grown without the use of chemicals, pesticides or other harmful materials. With over six decades of experience in the back pocket of his Wrangler jeans, Charlie Barra -- now 84 years old -- farms his organic vineyards with the goal of producing rich, distinguishable fruits that shine through in every glass of BARRA of Mendocino wine.

BERRIDGE WINE COMPANY From the cliffs of New Zealand to the mountain tops and coastal regions of Northern California, Berridge Wine Company consistently delivers some of the most amazing pinot noir — ever. Founder Richard Berridge believes the foundation of great wine begins from within the soil. Building upon the richness and fertility of the earth from which the vine springs and the grape issues, Berridge believes that selection of the best location for each vineyard, employment of precise methodology in planting, nurture and harvest and following viticultural best practices in every instance are all of paramount importance in development of the building blocks of every fine wine. It should come as no surprise that Berridge keen attention to the science of his craft: He completed his graduate studies at Harvard, having earning the designation Master Landscape Architect. Connoisseurs and others who enjoy fine wines have been blessed by wines created by Berridge since 1976, when he was among the founders of Duckhorn Wine. Wine consumers continue to enjoy the fruits of his labors and keen eye for the science of viticulture.

DK WINES Demuth Kemos began in 2004 with the production of two barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon from the Clajeux Vineyard. In the course of the following 5 vintages, proprietors and long time friends Eric Demuth and Peter Kemos built on the success of this initial wine with the founding of their micro -winery in the Russian River Valley which specializes in cool climate, single vineyard, mountain Cabernets from Sonoma County. Eric’s roots in the industry date back to 1982 when he helped plant his family’s former estate vineyard in the Anderson Valley. He remained actively involved at Demuth Vineyard through the construction of the winery, and finally the production of their first estate wines some 20 years later. It was the frequent visits as a guest and seasonal helper to this vineyard dating back to the early 90’s that sparked Peter’s interest and passion for wine, and ultimately led to this collaboration.

Ellman Family Vineyard Born in South Africa, Neil and Lance Ellman have spent much of their travels sampling fine food and wine around the world. Passionate entrepreneurs, the brothers were inspired by their shared love of smaller production boutique wines that focused on quality, not quantity. This inspired the launch of Ellman Family Vineyards. Selecting the finest fruit possible, Ellman Family Vineyards draws on time-honored techniques to handcraft remarkable wines. The Ellmans chose Napa as their premier source of fruit to handpick their favorite varietals from one of the best growing climates on the planet. This relentless focus on craftsmanship offers a different experience from some of the larger wineries. Like good friends, the Ellman Family Vineyard wines are meant to be cherished and savored. Neil and Lance wouldn’t have it any other way.

FULCRUM WINES To create luscious wines with complexity and depth of flavor we seek grapes from vineyards that are placed in very special areas. Locations that are warm enough to produce perfectly ripe fruit, but cool enough to allow for extended hang time that builds the complex flavors we are seeking. Also critical is the viticultural practices of the growers that emphasize balancing the vine with the right canopy management techniques. All Fulcrum Pinot Noir comes from vines trained on a VSP (vertical shoot positioning) trellis and are pruned to reduce shading of the fruit, but with enough leaves remaining to ripen the fruit and keep the vine healthy for decades to come. Crop thinning is practiced to produce even ripening and to intensify flavors. All of these efforts are time consuming and costly, but the quality of the wine is so much better for it. With Fulcrum you should expect nothing less.

Hans fahdden The Fahden vineyards and winery consists of 100 acres. It is located at 1200 feet, in a range of the Mayacamus Mountains, on a ridge above Calistoga. The property features panoramic views of Mt. St. Helena. The Hans Fahden Winery became bonded in 1986. The first bottle of wine, which was produced from the 1987 vintage, was sold in 1992. The Hans Fahden Winery became licensed to conduct public tastings in 1996. The early wines were made in the traditional California style and were blockbusters. They were intense and "jammy" but took years to develop. The volcanic soils created an earthy taste and Bordeaux character which was characterized by smoky and cedary overtones. Fifteen years later, the 1989 and 1990 vintages are now ready to be enjoyed. We are currently releasing our 1999 vintage. We made approximately 2,000 cases as well as 500 cases of a more structured reserve. The wine is well balanced, rich and smooth in taste. We added a small amount of merlot and reduced the percentage of the press wine in the final blend. The wine still has the Hans Fahden character of earlier vintages, but the tannins are significantly softer.

V E N G E V I N E YA R D S The Venge (ven-ghee) family has farmed vitis viniferra varieties in Napa Valley for nearly a half-century. It is a journey that began when Knud Venge migrated from Denmark to the United States in the early 1900’s. Knud's son, Per Venge, found his passion in the wine and spirits industry and started Vencom Imports, focusing on the importation of Western European fine wines and spirits. It was Per's son, Nils Venge, who left the family business in the 1960's with a vision to study viticulture at UC Davis and establish the family namesake as an icon within the winegrowing community. The family's viticultural roots flourished in 1976 with the purchase of a 17-acre vineyard in the Oakville District that was planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This fortunate development cast the family among the winemaking pioneers of Napa Valley. Nils' son, Kirk Venge, gravitated to winemaking at an early age. He proved to be as talented a winemaker as his father, making wines in his own style, with a vision to build his own legacy in the valley. In 2008, Kirk achieved his lifelong dream and acquired full ownership of Venge Vineyards from his family. Today, Kirk continues the Napa Valley heritage, focusing on select vineyard sites that produce fruit worthy of bearing the Venge family name.

VO N S T R A S S E R W I N E R Y When Rudy and Rita purchased the old Roddis Winery in 1990, the vineyards were planted in two stages. The oldest block, 2 acres in size, was planted in 1970 to budwood from Martha’s Vineyard. The second block, 4 acres in size, was planted in 1983, also with budwood from Martha’s Vineyard. In 1991, the von Strasser’s embarked upon a vineyard modernization, changing the entire vineyard to a high density, vertical trellis system. An acre of Petit Verdot was planted that year with an eye towards its future use in a unique Reserve bottling. In 1998, a new piece of hillside land was cleared and planted to vineyard. Today, the property consists of Cabernet Sauvignon (12 acres), Petit Verdot (2 acres), and Merlot (1 acre).
