It’s been a long couple of years, Toronto! I can’t wait to see us back in action.

The Exhibition Place is an incredible venue that hosts some of the largest convention events in North America. It’s safe to say it’s a suitable home for the growth we’re seeing in the natural health, organic and wellness industry, and we can’t wait to show it off.
There’s no denying the industry is growing from what it once was — and CHFA is too. CHFA NOW is so much more than the place to discover new products (although there’s still plenty of that). It’s our community meeting place — where we grow our network, discover new business opportunities, learn from each other’s wins and misses, and have a ton of fun. The connections within this community are what enable such unparalleled growth, and no one knows that better than our members.

While the new venue is top-notch, what I’m really looking forward to is the unparalleled buzz on the tradeshow floor, the tangible insights we’ll gain during the conference and the new opportunities we’re about to uncover. We know from our last show in Vancouver there’s nothing like connecting in person — running into an old friend on the tradeshow floor or sparking new connections — you never know what’s going to happen when you step outside of scheduled meetings and zoom calls.

Exhibition Place is Canada's largest entertainment venue and hosts over 5.5 million visitors every year. The venue includes the Enercare Centre, where we’ll be hosting our trade show and the Beanfield Centre, where our conference will take place. The Enercare Centre features over 1 million square feet of flexible convention space and the Beanfield Centre is an Art Deco masterpiece with lakeside views and state-of-the-art technology. Embracing Frugality
Inflation has forced consumers to look for ways to save, including when shopping for beauty. Beauty brands can respond to the cost-conscious consumer by offering simplified skincare routines with allpurpose products.
To combat false claims, brands need to give full access to information, from origin to manufacturing, and make scientific information clear, accessible, and easy to understand. The Quebec-based company Oneka Elements does transparency right. Oneka's website details information about the Oneka farm, where many of the ingredients for the products are grown, offers an extensive ingredient list for each product, and the updated blog keeps consumers educated on the brand. For example, a recent article highlights the team's journey to finding a better solution to HDPE plastic by looking into possibilities of smaller caps, making bottles thinner, and even compostable packaging. It's not always about sharing after the fact but showcasing your work along the way resonates with consumers.

Brands like ACURE, which offers a range of clean skin and hair care products at drug store prices, will succeed. ACURE utilizes its website and social media feed to highlight how simple skincare routines can be effective, many of which range from three to four simple steps and include a dualpurpose SPF moisturizer.

Giving back to the earth: Refillulation
Consumers are more conscious than ever of what they put in their bodies and what they're putting on them; as a result, beauty is changing. Over the past decade, we've seen clean beauty — products that are free from harmful ingredients, particularly parabens, sulphates and phthalates, become more popular in retail stores across the globe. In fact, "over half of the beauty and personal care products being sold in the U.S. are currently paraben-free, with the growth rate continuing to outpace the total category"1.
WGSN claims "by 2023, the 'refillution' will be in full effect, with 'bottles for life' and milkman-style delivery services becoming an easy and affordable everyday habit."2 Routine has been offering refillable solutions for deodorant (and saved 100,000 deodorant jars from the landfill since 2018) and recently launched a new program to include their natural shampoos and conditioners. These products are available at refill stores across the country at a reduced price – a win, win for the environment and the consumer.
We know from our research on the Canadian consumer that when it comes to personal care and beauty products sustainability, affordable price, and health for skin are now more important to consumers than they were 1-2 years ago. But with the current social, economic and political environment, clean beauty brands will have to take their work further to win over the conscious consumer. In 2023, beauty consumers will focus their purchases on brands that demonstrate transparency, give back to the world, and offer ways to save.

Le but n’est pas toujours de communiquer l’information après coup; le fait de mettre en valeur votre travail tout au long du processus trouve un écho auprès des consommateurs.
