AROUND THE GREENS Junior Hawks enjoy a sparkling 2020 Queensland State Titles campaign... Three of our Hawks Junior Academy players competed in the 2020 Queensland State Junior Championships held in Toowoomba from the 19th – 24th January. Our juniors did exceptionally well with Corey Marshall taking out the U15 Pairs and U18 Fours Gold Medals, Sophie Allan winning the U15 Singles Gold Medal in a great final against fellow Hawk Sophie Kiepe who won the U15 Singles Silver Medal. Corey was also announced as making the U18 State Squad for the first time. What fantastic achievements for our wonderful juniors. They played so well and were such great ambassadors for our Club. Well done guys!

Jayden Christie and Lynsey Clarke traveled over to Christchurch NZ on the 16th January to compete with the Australian Team in the prestigious Stu Buttar Invitational Pairs Classic. Our duo did exceptionally well with Jayden Christie (and partner Carl Healey) taking out the Division 2 Pool Win, while Lynsey Clarke (teamed with Rebecca Van Asch) qualified in top spot to play in Division 1 and finished in 7th place overall. The event was won by our Australian combination of Corey Wedlock and Aaron Wilson. Thanks to all the members for your well wishes and followings, the support we received over the ditch was fantastic.

Well Done Junior Hawks

* Be conversant with the laws of the game and observe them. * Keep your mind on the game and be ready with bowl in hand when it is your turn to bowl. * If you lose, be a good loser. Do not blame your loss on other people, the green etc. All the excuses that are made by losers could have been made but are not by the successful people. * Win or lose, always shake hands with your opponent and thank them for the game. * Just as importantly, be a good winner. Do not be over enthused with your win today, as the position could very well be reversed tomorrow. * If an enjoyable game has been played, no matter what the outcome, there are no losers. * Luck does not come into it either, as planning, preparation, positive thinking and PRACTICE bring about good luck. * It is good sportsmanship to acknowledge displays of exceptional skill. Flukes are simply revelations of unrecognised opportunities and balance out over time so it serves no purpose to take too much notice of them. They do not reflect a skilled performance and should be accepted graciously when they occur and WITHOUT acclamation. * Acclamation of an opponents bowl which gives you a positive result is not appropriate and shows poor sportsmanship. The enjoyment of a game is diminished if either team indulges in gamesmanship. *Inconsiderate distractions such as loud noises or conversation and visible movement of players, objects or shadows, impact on kicked bowls etc should be avoided while a bowler is on the mat preparing for delivery. *Bowlers should not delay play and should not leave the rink for extended periods without consent or good reason. They should not interfere with the head until the result of the end has been agreed. If an opponent has not counted all of the shots the opponent is entitled to count. Good sportsmanship should prevail.
