Well June is done and dusted, the shortest day has flown by and once again the team at CLM Health & Fitness Whangarei have been flat out. Our bootcamp has just over 2 weeks to go, the all new CLM Weightloss Solution is in countdown to launch mode and our regulars keep turning up at all hours to get their health & fitness fix. It’s great to see everybody (shape, size, age and gender) getting stuck in to their health & fitness goals.

Who has been your biggest inspiration in the sporting world? Valerie Adams – because of what she does and she’s actually a real good basketball player. Most Basketballers are fairly lean and tall like yourself. What strength training do you do and how is it structured? I do a lot of ladder work, box jumps, squats, wall sits and core work. Our Bootcamp Land and Water sessions seem to be going from strength to strength at 6:15am Monday/Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. We would like to welcome

Hayley Cassidy who joins Caroline and Dave as one of our instructors. Hayley is the current NZ & World IKBF Champion and has been bringing her fight background flavour to the troops. Two weeks left to run and the group of 19 participants have been doing some great work. Sam Warriner (Olympian), and one of our sponsored athletes, put the team through there paces as our local celebrity guest for the 1 hour session recently which has had a positive spin on the group. Thankyou Sam. this area Tina Lyford who has become extremely successful through her very own W8 loss achievements that have seen her lose 33kg and working hard towards achieving her remaining personal goal of running a half marathon.

Recently a workshop was held by David Hill (national Nutritionist guru) that will see the CLM Health & Fitness W8 Loss Solutions Programme coming to town with the first term starting on the 30th July and running for 8 weeks. Our Xtrain Evolution has been growing in popularity in the gym with members young and old giving it a good old fashioned crack! Great to see some good times now posted in the 50 + Veteran’s section. Currently topping the rankings we have Wallace Poa (men’s veterans) @ 3.54, June Daucina (womens veterans) @4.50, Lee Neumann (open male) @4.30, Joey Yovich (staff male) @ 3.21 and Hayley Cassidy (staff female) @ 5.00. Some sharp times coming in, What have you got.... The Business House relay has been running and our CLM Health and Fitness ‘SINKERS’ team has been chipping away every week and keeping everyone honest and upsetting and surprising all along the way. Thankyou to all staff and the odd member who has given it a go and taken part in this event. As they say its important to walk the talk; with that it has also given the opportunity to get all together to create that all important Team effort – you cant beat it!

Member of the Month - Don Ross

Don recently competed at the World BMX Champs and in the 16-year-old boys division, Ross reached the semifinals in the 20 inch class and finished 6th out of 116 in the world. In the cruiser class he rode into 6th place and a world ranking of 6th. Only the top eight are officially world ranked. “In the final race I had the outside lane. I had a good start but pushed to the outside and the other guys took off,” Ross said of the final. “I managed to work my way back to sixth. ”He said international racing was a great yardstick. The 16-year-old boys classes were dominated by French, Dutch, US, Australian, Latvian and Brazilian riders. “I didn’t think I was going to do that well. I

was aiming for top 16. Overseas trips let you see where you are against the rest of the world. “You lift your game at those big meets and if you make a mistake it’s all over.” After nine years in the sport, this was his fifth world champs. But it was his last performance at Copenhagen that spurred him on to achieve this year. Don has the backing of dad Alan, who was impressed with the international competition in the UK. “It was extremely tough riding with the depth of quality riders from many countries and in the deadman rounds.“One mistake and you do not progress to the next round,” he said. Top effort mate, we’re real proud of you!!!
