Along with these spaces for resting, unwinding, and taking in your surroundings, the Treehotel features two-tree sauna buildings, designed to hold up to 12 people, and a new conference room. The latter, called the Dragonfly, debuted in 2013, and is now used for fulland half-day conferences for up to 12 people. The Treehotel, located in Harads, Sweden, near the Lule River, has created such a model specifically for rejuvenation. n the Caribbean, we often leave our windows open and doors ajar. The welcoming trade winds that pass through are like ghosts carrying whispers of neighborly gossip, blessings from the ancestors and on the very rare occasion, fragments of Africa. These winds blow slowly but surely all the way to Barbados, never stopping until they land on a palm frond or kiss your cheek. As a result, our architecture is open wherever possible to the outdoors. This is just one of the many reasons you’ll fall in love with Tradewinds. The furnishings throughout are pre-dominantly in shades of white and cream paired with dark woods, this neutral backdrop is accented with pops of colour or pattern such as the pastel pink coffee table in


the sitting room, the seductive red leather ottoman in the den and the chairs upholstered in zebra hide. The four downstairs bedrooms are tasteful and, all have ensuite bathrooms where neutral stone tiles in the shower and clear glass doors lend a light and spacious feeling. Entering through the main door the first bedroom is to your right where a gold post bed with Ivory Coast elephant cushions makes for a cavalier centerpiece. This guest bedroom has the added advantage of leading outdoors to the pool terrace. The bedroom to the left has a garden view with colourful crotons tapping on the window and a view onto the original world-renowned Sandy Lane golf course. A zebra hide ottoman rests at the foot of the bed, and the bedside tables are of a unique vintage glass with extraordinary rustic staining. Exotic accents like these can be found throughout the villa and include an alligator skin desk, a dark chest of drawers with tribal carvings topped with a head of coral and a pair of antique horse hair calligraphy brushes rested casually on the coffee table. Whether faux or real, animal patterns are woven against an otherwise contemporary Caribbean interior paying homage to the birthplace of the very trade winds the island is so famously known for. The two remaining ground floor bedrooms both have lush garden views; don’t be surprised if you catch a glimpse of a family of local green monkeys frolicking here. Upstairs is luxuriously devoted entirely as a master suite and study; the bedroom features a walk in closet and two balconies on opposite sides. One overlooks the crystal clear pool and terrace, the other onto the evergreen golf course and both have loungers for sun worship. Inside a four-poster bed is flanked on either side by bedside tables with gold lamps, images of sea shells hang above and at the foot of the bed is a taupe love seat. The master bedroom is cozy and has calming tropical décor. On the terrace adjacent to the stunning pool is the dining area where, a table dressed in crisp linens allows seating for ten under the illumination of an electric candle chandelier. Here you may enjoy such gourmet delights as Blackened Catch of the Day or Prime Surf and Turf. The kitchen is modernly outfitted and fully equipped with a stainless steel fridge and freezer, two ovens, warmers and a central island with its own prep sink. Have no fear if cooking isn’t at the top of your ‘to do’ list during your stay here as the villa is fully staffed with a Chef, Butler, Housekeeper and grounds-man. Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S | Sports Car and Practical Comfort in One I

n a sense, picturing Mercedes as a sports car brand is a challenge in the present, but the company is getting back to its roots with the Mercedes-AMG GT and GT S models. Announced in the fall of 2014, it’s the second sports car developed entirely in house by Mercedes-AMG, with a design that effortlessly transitions from high-quality comfort to classic speed. In short, it represents both sides of the Mercedes brand. On a very basic level, Mercedes developed the car with a front mid-engine design characterized by a rear transaxle, sevenspeed dual-clutch transmission, intelligent lightweight aluminum construction, and a 4.0l V8 biturbo engine. The last point sets it apart: the AMG GT is the company’s first to feature internallymounted turbochargers, in a V-shaped configuration, and dry sump lubrication. In use, it responds with a high level of power practically immediately: the GT goes from zero to 60 in 3.9 seconds and reaches a top speed of 189 mph, and reduces exhaust gas emissions. As a step up, the GT S goes from zero to 60 in 3.7 seconds and can travel up to 193 mph. The right amount of weight distribution further enhances driving dynamics, while Dynamic Select Mode and AMG Drive Unit Controls allow you to change the engine sound and exhaust vanes, respectively. 32 |

The two-seat design reflects its everyday practicality. You’ll find inside a decklid and luggage compartment, in addition to an overall comfortable feel and the company’s standard Intelligent Drive assistance systems. This isn’t to say that the sporty side’s completely gone once you take a seat; instead, it retains Mercedes’ A-wing form based on a spacious aviation design for a low-slung feel, and optimizes air flow to cooling modules. From the outside, too, it’s clearly a Mercedes in both sense of the brand: a long hood with pronounced powerdomes, large wheels, a broad tail, an arched surface, narrow tail lights, and frameless doors. As well, side outlets, each with two fins, give it a completely modern appearance, while a double wishbone suspension system, at the front and rear, creates a low center of gravity. As the AMG GT is clearly a luxury car, customizing both aspects is a possibility. Add your choice of trim to the interior, while multiple custom exterior packages are available: Exterior Silver Chrome, Night, and Exterior Carbon Fiber. The 503hp GT S is currently available and priced at $129,900, as of April 2015, while the 456hp standard GT model arrives in Spring 2016. ■
