Location : Secret Bay, Dominica Recently named “World’s Best Boutique Hotel”

Adventure Awaits Crowded, overly commercialized Caribbean resorts are a cliché, but

for that island experience away from the masses and cruise ships, Secret Bay in Dominica takes you right into nature. Conceived by architect Fruto Vivas, the resort recently named “World’s Best Boutique Hotel” blends environmentally friendly design with a completely personalized, intimate experience adjacent to two beaches. Away from the island’s major towns and recently updated, Secret Bay’s six luxury villas and bungalows feature open-air, sustainablycreated designs immersed within the surrounding vegetation. Made out of Guyanese hardwood and red cedar, each 1,000- to 3,000-foot dwelling further incorporates drip irritation to save water and energyconserving, low-energy lighting and appliances. As well, an in-villa attendant addresses your needs, while at-your-service chefs can prepare your daily meals. While the room itself is stocked according to your preferences, the attendant helps arrange for your fine dining, spa sessions, and adventures throughout your time here. Curation and personalization extend beyond your living accommodations. During your time here, work with the staff to arrange for kayaking or stand-up paddle boarding trips, massage or yoga sessions, a cooking class, or even a one-man jazz performance. Since nature and the beach are literally right outside, you can take

advantage of those quintessentially Caribbean activities you’ve always wanted to do: biking through the jungle, whale watching, snorkeling, or river exploring. Yet, while Secret Bay is tucked away in the jungle, its location places it right at the center of everything. The town of Portsmouth is just a 10-minute drive away, and the island’s capital, Roseau, an hour. As well, Prince Rupert Bay, known for its secluded, white sanded beaches, is easily accessible by kayak, and during your stay, you can arrange for trips to such nearby sites as Fort Shirley at the Cabrits National Park; Indian River, where you can explore via a scuba diving trip or a traditional Caribe boat; and the Northern Forest Reserve. Reopening in November 2018, Secret Bay went through a series of changes. In addition to the restaurant, a new wellness pavilion lets visitors do their yoga classes and spa treatments right along the edge of the river. As well, The Residences at Secret Bay have opened up a select number of real estate offerings within the resort’s grounds. Situated in their own secluded areas, the Riverside Villas, Clifftop Villa Estates, and other properties feel as if they’re a part of the surrounding landscape, almost integrated with nature and positioned just above the ground, and offer owners a year-round getaway complemented by five-star resort service. ■ | 39
