ENDEAVOUR, ENJOY, EXCEL
AN UNWAVERING BELIEF IN THE POTENTIAL OF EVERY PUPIL
WELCOME TO HARRIS ACADEMY TOTTENHAM At Harris Academy Tottenham, we have an unwavering belief in the potential of every pupil. We truly believe that every child can and will be successful, and should strive for excellence. Our Academy values embody that approach. If children endeavour to work hard, and demonstrate unwavering persistence, then they will gain enjoyment from the process of learning, and excel towards opportunities that will transform their lives. At our heart, we are a community school that strives to work with families to give each child the best opportunities possible. We have traditional values and high expectations. We expect self discipline, smart uniform and good manners; professionalism is expected of everybody. We expect our pupils to try their very best at all times, and to enjoy and relish the challenges and opportunities that learning brings. This will enable them to excel at whatever they desire. This is because we want to ensure that each pupil has an enriching experience with us, where they develop their academic scholarship alongside their character; becoming citizens who are a credit to their local community. We will provide a broad and balanced curriculum, alongside an extensive extracurricular programme to allow your child to develop as a wellrounded person, ready and prepared to embark upon whichever pathway they desire.
Our new specialist facilities, including a state-of-theart theatre, recording studio and Sports facility which provide our pupils with opportunities to showcase their talents to all within the local community and beyond. UNINTERRUPTED EDUCATION FROM NURSERY UNTIL UNIVERSITY As an all-through Academy, we have the privilege of shaping a pupils knowledge, skills and attributes at a crucial time in their lives. We want to work in partnership with you throughout their childhood. Therefore, our ethos is grounded in the traditional values: hard work, good manners, smart uniform are the foundations of strong academic and personal achievement. Pupils entering the school in Year 7 have the opportunity of a place in our Sixth Form where they will be taught by teachers they already know and respect. Class sizes are kept as small as possible. The atmosphere is disciplined and rigorous but also exciting and rewarding.
OUR VALUES: BE THE BEST YOU CAN BE! We believe that when a school gives its pupils the confidence to believe they are capable of excellence, that is exactly what they go on to achieve. Our pupils are supported by a hand-picked team of excellent teachers who take the time to get to know and understand every young person in their care. There are three Harris Academy Tottenham values that define the way in which our pupils learn and behave: Endeavour – we expect pupils to be committed to learning, to strive to achieve their very best and rise to the challenges and opportunities that they encounter. We support them to achieve their very best through a personalised curriculum combined with a caring and supportive pastoral system.
Enjoy – We want pupils to enjoy their learning and to know the feeling of success which comes through relentless passion and drive. We deliver an engaging curriculum with plenty of opportunities for pupils to be involved in extra-curricular activities and to develop beyond the classroom. Excel – We believe that all pupils have the potential to achieve the very best outcomes. We have a no-excuses culture and will support your son or daughter to fulfil their potential; with high aspirations, drive and the ambition that is evident within all Harris Academies.
OUR CURRICULUM We believe that our curriculum is the vehicle by which pupils will excel towards the pathways they desire. We want pupils to develop their academic scholarship; exploring the best of what’s been thought and said, discovered and explored through their own personal study of the subject discipline. Therefore, we provide a broad and balanced curriculum, with the aim that we produce knowledgeable and well educated young people at the end of their Sixth Form career. Our core offer leads to the well-respected English Baccalaureate, with good GCSE passes in English Language and Literature, Maths, Science, History or Geography and a modern language. Our other subjects include
Art, Design Technology, Religious Education, Performing Arts, PE, Music, Computing and Classics. We believe that the foundations of our curriculum are first-class literacy skills. We expect pupils to read widely; to expand and develop their vocabulary and to become confident and assured presenters, capable of shaping their language to any context. Our teachers are subject experts, and are committed to ensuring that they model the scholarship we expect from our pupils.
EXCELLENT TEACHING IN EVERY CLASSROOM Learning at Harris Academy Tottenham has a focus on mastery and challenge to ensure your child is capable of utilising their knowledge and skills across a range of contexts. Our culture places a love of learning beyond anything else.
Learning does not begin and end at the classroom door; pupils participate regularly in educational visits, work placements, activity days and masterclasses across a range of topics. These visits help us to ensure that we are bringing pupil learning to life!
As part of the Harris Federation, our teachers work with colleagues from our partner schools to share their best ideas and develop interesting and engaging approaches to teaching. As an all-through Academy, our colleagues collaborate to ensure our provision is cohesive and progressive at all stages of the curriculum.
A Holistic Approach
We are fortunate to have developed partnerships with a range of prestigious institutions including The Royal Academy of Dance, RADA, Tottenham Hotspur, and various Russell Group Universities.
We care deeply about the development of each and every child and know each child as an individual. Our extensive pastoral care systems provide a framework for ensuring each child has the support they need to thrive.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Our broad range of extracurricular activities includes Art, Drama and Debating Societies, as well as a range of choirs, dance groups and musical ensembles. We are proud to offer a broad range of sporting opportunities in our brand new sports facilities, whilst
pupils who want to will also be able to participate in the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. We want every pupil to have the chance to shine. Whenever there is demand for a new club or activity, we always try to find a way to make it happen.
OUR HOUSE SYSTEM Each Pupil will join one of our established Houses as part of their transition to the Academy. Each house is named after a famous Mathematician or Scientist
who embody our core values; reflecting our Academy specialism. Students are ambassadors for their house and feel a sense of belonging to our community.
PUPIL LEADERSHIP We know that, when given the opportunity, pupils can have a profound impact on their school. Involvement in pupil leadership and voice activities
can improve pupils’ learning as well as helping them to develop the skills and traits needed for success outside of the classroom.
MAKING OUR YEAR 7 PUPILS FEEL WELCOME
From the moment they arrive here at the beginning of September, we want our Year 7 pupils to feel welcome, safe and cared for. By feeling settled early on, they can begin to grasp all that we have to offer: academic, social and extracurricular.
They will be part of a vertical tutor group and we will ensure each tutor group develops as a learning family, the older pupils will act as mentors and they will be able to guide them as they progress through the Academy.
In their first week here, every Year 7 will meet their tutor, who will coach them, set goals with them and make sure they settle in well.
As parents, you will receive regular communication, so that you are fully informed about your child’s education. We will work closely with you to make sure that your child has the support they need to be successful.
ADMISSIONS There are 180 Year 7 places available for 2020 and we welcome pupils of all abilities and backgrounds.
Applications need to be made via the Common Application Form available from Haringey or your home Local Authority, if you live outside Haringey. If you are interested in a place, we would love to meet you. Details of our open events are available on our website.
