Clevedon School Student Focused Achievement
Our school is based upon traditional values with a forward-thinking vision.
Welcome Welcome to Clevedon School, an ‘Outstanding’ academy within the Clevedon Learning Trust. At Clevedon School we believe all our students have the potential to achieve anything they aim for in life. We provide an excellent foundation for their future through high quality teaching, a rich and stimulating curriculum experience, and a culture of aspiration and ambition by developing leadership of self, others and the wider community. We deliver a broad and innovative curriculum underpinned by the highest academic standards and traditional values. The school has a strong and positive ethos where relationships between students and staff are built around clear values and mutual respect. We are an inclusive school and believe all our students can achieve success in life. Working in partnership with our families, all staff work hard to get the best out of our students. We have excellent teachers and support staff, an exciting curriculum and an extra-curricular programme with something for everyone. Student leadership and voice is strong, and we encourage our young people to be ambassadors for our school, and our town. Every member of the community is encouraged to ‘belong’ through a sense of contribution, responsibility, ownership and confidence which is seen in the pride our students have for their school. We welcome parents who would like to bring their child for a tour of the school to visit classrooms and experience our school for themselves.

“Clevedon is an outstanding school which provides excellent opportunities for students to thrive and develop highly effective skills and aptitudes.”
Curriculum We have a reputation for our student-focused and clearly targeted learning initiatives. We encourage robust, independent thinking and facilitate students to understand how they think and learn best. From day one, Year 7 students follow ‘The Elements’ programme of study which we have designed especially for them. Dedicated work has gone into developing it, and the response from students and results are evident all day, every day. This programme offers an exciting and inspiring curriculum across all subjects. Subject ‘maps’ are used by students who are able to reference resources on our online learning portal, ‘Firefly’. An interactive iBook is also utilised, where students have iPads.
Students use a digital Learning Journal that they can download to their devices and use to capture their learning and new experiences in each subject area. All students in school follow ‘The Clevedon Way’. This acts as a personal compass helping students navigate their learning journey through six Qualities of Leadership.
At Key Stage 4 our students study core subjects of English, maths and science and are then able to choose a range of further subjects that interest them and we build our timetable around them. This means students are able to opt for what suits them best, where they will progress towards their future education and employment aspirations. A separate prospectus details the range of academic and modern vocational courses offered from our Sixth Form.
Students thrive in a unique and challenging learning environment.
Inspiring Futures We aim to expand the horizons of our students academically, culturally and vocationally and we look to inspire, motivate and involve our students as they prepare for the rapidly changing world of work and future study. We operate a number of guidance programmes across all age ranges to ensure our students are well informed about the opportunities available to them for their future pathways and to ensure they meet, if not exceed, their aspirations. Our Sixth Form is both separate from the whole school and integrated within it. Through a suite of varied learning and social environments students have access to the benefits of the House System and also the principles and privileges of Post 16 education. Opportunities to share and pass on all that they have learned during their years at Clevedon School are encouraged and Sixth Formers are often involved in mentoring younger students, using their subject specific knowledge to assist teachers in the classroom or running sports teams, for example.
The Whole Student At Clevedon School, we understand that it is not solely academic achievements that develop young people and prepares them for their future. We offer a wide range of opportunities for students to develop themselves, their skills and abilities - whether this is through an existing interest or trying something new. Our extensive extra-curricular programme offers something for everyone, from sport and dance to the school’s radio station and media team covering all school events, to arts and crafts.
Through our House System, students are able to really get stuck in to school life, taking on responsibility and further developing their leadership skills. Students can stand for election as Year or House Leaders, or can volunteer for projects run in school such as Student Voice activities and Peer Mentoring, or even organising events for local primary school children. Students take responsibility for helping each other and can train to become Peer Listeners and in the Sixth Form, Peer Supervisors who assist staff by watching over younger students around the site during break and lunchtimes. The House Championship runs throughout the year and encourages every student and staff member to become involved at some level, be it academic, sport, community or talent related. Competition between Houses is friendly but fierce! At the end of the year, in a nail-biting awards ceremony, the winning House is announced and rewarded with a whole-House afternoon activity.
Strong partnerships with parents are key for student success.
A Partnership We believe that developing a well-rounded young person is founded on a successful partnership between school and home. Our families are involved at all stages of a student’s time at Clevedon School. From the pastoral care received from their Head of House or the individual support, advice and encouragement from their tutor, to classroom teacher concerns or celebrations, we keep you up to date every step of the way. Academic Mentoring Days and subject Parents’ Evenings further improve this communication around your child’s development. We embrace technologies to support collaboration and communication both in school and at home. Our students and parents have access to secure resources via our dedicated online portal, Firefly. Students are able to complete and submit assignments, join discussion groups in our forums and communicate seamlessly with their teachers. Parents are able to view their child’s key information around attendance, behaviour and achievements, and view their latest academic reports. Also visible is the homework and class tasks that have been set. Emails provide the latest important information, details of school events and your child’s progress directly to you. Our website is the source of the latest school news, important calendar dates, copies of our online newsletter and all our latest publications. We look forward to working with you.
