Trojans to benefit from strong leadership

Goshen Warriors Varsity Football Roster Name

The Glen Este returning lettermen are front row from left, John Mikolay, Alex Scardina, Robbie Russell, Seth Wood, Josh Buttrick, and Mike Hogue; row two, Brian Schock, Austin Duncanson, Cody Downs, Michael Kennedy, Keith Blanton, James Mikolay, and Corey Goedde; and row three, Kyle Turner, Matt Jones, Justin Mulloney, Shane Seckman, Todd Davis, Kyle Rettinger, Trey Blank, Tim McBride, Wynton Overcast, Travis Jones, Corey Burris, and Anthony Clark. BY RCHARD CRAWFORD Sun staff Having lost just five lettermen from a year ago, Glen Este head football coach Zak Taylor is understandably enthusiastic about the upcoming campaign. “We have 24 seniors on the team so we definitely are going to have good leadership,” Taylor said. “We’ve got really good skilled kids on both sides of the ball.” If the Trojans have a weakness, Taylor believes it will be that his charges are “a little bit small up front. We’re

going to have some new linemen.” Taylor expects his leaders on offense will be senior running back Austin Duncanson (5-feet, 11-inches, 175pounds), senior running back Collin Pitman (5-9, 225), and senior quarterback Shane Seckman (6-4, 210). Each will be beginning their third year as starters for the varsity. On the defensive side of the football, a quartet is expected to spearhead the Purple and White - Pitman at linebacker, senior Matt Jones (6-2, 185) at outside line-

backer, senior defensive back Corey Goedde (6-1, 155), and senior defensive back Anthony Clark (5-11, 150). “I think we’re going to be improved. We have high expectations to win the league and to make the playoffs,” Taylor said. He predicts the Buckeye Division of the Fort Ancient Valley Conference will be “more balanced than it’s ever been,” but if anyone has just one step ahead of the rest of the conference, it would be Winton Woods’ Warriors and/or Anderson’s Redskins. “The way the league is this

year, if we’re not ready against all five teams on the night we play them we could lose them all and if we’re ready every game we could win them all. It’s going to be that close.” Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division all-stars returning Collin Pitman, Austin Duncanson, and Corey Goedde Fort Ancient Valley Conference Buckeye Division all-star lost Dan Shepherd
