Clear Water Academy opened its doors in 1995, with 2 teachers and 24 students. Our founders took a bold step in faith to provide a premier Catholic educational institution and community in Canada. A place where families who shared a desire for a Christ centered education could become a community and where future generations would be well prepared morally, ethically, and spiritually. They created Clear Water Academy, a school where students would receive a balanced spiritual and educational foundation. They implemented the model of Integral Formation, as a means to ensuring that every child received a personalized education aimed at forming their character, intellect, faith and desire to serve others. Today, Clear Water Academy is home to nearly 500 students in Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12, and over 80 staff members (role models). Clear Water Academy teaches, educates and forms students so that they will become the leaders necessary to change society. The campus at Clear Water Academy is situated on seven acres in the heart of Calgary. It is comprised of four main buildings; Athlone Hall, Harvey Hall, Bessborough Hall, and Keller Hall, two general playing fields, a playground, and Parade Square. A quick visit to our campus during any recess will demonstrate how prized and well utilized these play areas are among our students. Clear Water Academy students benefit from our science lab, library, fitness centre, computer lab, high school lounge, music, art and drama rooms, and our two chapels. Students enjoy classes in music, art and drama. Harvey Hall houses our impressive gymnasium where our intramural clubs and physical education classes take place, our Crusaders athletes practice and compete against teams within ISAA. Our heritage buildings, with their classic lines, surrounded by mature trees, convey the permanence of truth and the reassurance of noble traditions. Inside, our buildings are warm and inviting – a place where all the virtues meet, but where charity especially reigns. It is a place of learning and growth, where joy and hope flourish and mingle with smiles and laughter.
Our MISSION The Mission of Clear Water Academy is to provide the highest quality education and foster integrally formed Christian leaders. This Mission is fulfilled as Clear Water Academy students graduate as strong Christian leaders, convinced of the truth, prepared and committed to establish and foster a society where Christian values are taught, embraced and put into practice. This Mission is pursued through the development of the whole person, encompassing the commitment to four dimensions of our educational philosophy:
Intellectual Formation Human Formation Spiritual Formation Apostolic Formation Clear Water Academy is a Catholic School serving the Diocese of Calgary. The school was founded to meet the growing demand for authentic Catholic education in Calgary. Clear Water Academy has demonstrated strong, steady growth since opening in 1995. Students of Clear Water Academy possess a rich store of knowledge, a love for the truth, and a set of skills and habits necessary to tackle higher learning. Humanly, they develop a character that is well-grounded in virtue. Personally, they grow in their ability to master their actions and choices. Spiritually, they mature in a life of grace and possess a deep friendship with Christ that supports Christian authenticity. Apostolically, they adopt a disposition of service towards others. Clear Water Academy students graduate as well-formed and well-prepared Christian leaders.
INTEGRAL FORMATION Clear Water Academy implements the Integral Formation method of education. Used in over 150 schools around the world, Integral Formation is built upon the Christian view of the person and focuses on forming all dimensions of the person - their intellectual, human, spiritual, and apostolic capacities. More simply put, we develop each child's knowledge, character, faith, and spirit thus helping them fulfill the unique mission for which they were created.
Clear Water Academy sets high, yet attainable, academic expectations for its students. Solid intellectual formation provides a wealth of knowledge for students, giving them the ability to think, speak and write clearly, coherently, and persuasively. Students develop habits essential for ongoing success after graduation including study skills, concentration and critical thinking, perseverance, and a desire and ability to produce high quality work. Clear Water Academy has been consistently ranked as one of the top academic schools in Alberta by the Fraser Institute.
Spiritual formation aims to help students fulfill the mission for which they were created, developing a deep, personal and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. Christ becomes the ultimate motive for all of a student's choices and actions. The student's intellectual and character growth comes to perfection through God's grace and through the student's spiritual efforts.
HUMAN FORMATION Through the practice of the responsible use of their freedom, Clear Water Academy students are supported to grow in virtue, compassion, discipline, respect, and maturity. The intentional use of programs, games, daily reminders, campaigns, virtue of the month, and more, ensures that virtuous behaviour becomes habit and a way of life.
APOSTOLIC FORMATION We seek to develop in our students the heart of an apostle, one that is sensitive and responsive to the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of others. Students perform concrete works of charity both within the school and for the larger community. Apostolic formation brings students into contact with the realities of life, awakening in them a sense of responsibility that will continue to be lived out as adults.
Our Catholic IDENTITY
OUR CATHOLIC IDENTITY As a Catholic school, Clear Water Academy shares in the rich, two thousand year old, Catholic Intellectual Tradition and Judeo-Christian values that have been the cornerstone and foundation of civilization. Faith and reason, character and intellect, personal development and service of others, love for the child and challenge to growth: all come together in this deep and harmonious enterprise that comprises Catholic education. Clear Water Academy has an open admission policy and welcomes families of all faiths. As a Catholic School of Integral Formation, Clear Water Academy offers a program rich in Catholic education and formation. This includes religion classes several times per week, weekly Masses, access to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, daily prayer, and a culture that is seeped in Catholic values. Our program of Integral Formation provides for each students' growth in intellect, character, responsibility and spirit. While our school welcomes students and families of all faiths, it is imperative that our entire community respects, values and is completely supportive of the Catholicity of our school.
GENDER STYLE EDUCATION International research affirms the advantage of gender style education for boys and girls. At Clear Water Academy, students in Grades 4 – 9 learn in gender specific classes allowing them to be engaged and challenged in an environment that best serves the learning styles of each gender. Our pedagogical approach involves individualized attention for every student. Gender style education allows our teachers to more effectively discover and provide for the unique needs of each child. The result is a more engaged, happy, and confident learner. As one of only a few schools in Canada to offer a gender style approach to education, Clear Water Academy is one Alberta’s premier schools. It has established a strong reputation for academic excellence. The Fraser Institute, in its annual report card on Alberta’s elementary schools, has year after year consistently ranked Clear Water Academy among the very best.
A SPECIAL PLACE From the moment you walk onto our campus, you feel something special. Something you can clearly sense, but can’t quite name. Perhaps it’s the warm sense of community among the teachers, parents, and staff – united in their desire to build the brightest future for all students. Perhaps it’s the communal effort to live each day as a testament to our faith. Maybe what you sense is love, the love we have for our Mission, and for each other as we strive together to achieve it. Whatever that “something” is, it’s what makes Clear Water Academy a very special place. Beyond the classroom is a community made strong through our people, our programs, and our faith.

“I believe we provide the highest quality of Catholic education. Our students are graduating as Christian leaders: young women and men who are convinced of the truth and prepared to establish a Christian society where peace, justice and love flourish. In November 2004, his holiness John Paul II inspired us to “set the world ablaze” (with the fire of Christ’s love). If we remain faithful to his joyful command, I believe Clear Water Academy will do just that! Semper Altius!"
– Principal, Clear Water Academy

Athletics & Outdoor Education P R O G R A M
ATHLETICS & OUTDOOR EDUCATION PROGRAM It has been said that the true character of a person is most evident at the dinner table and on the playing field. This is precisely why we place such emphasis on our Athletics and Outdoor Education Programs. The goal of character formation is to achieve virtue and maturity. This includes high behaviour standards, social graces, athletic achievement, sportsmanship, and teamwork. Exposing students to an extensive variety of athletic and outdoor pursuits is just one facet of our Physical Education Program. Its ultimate purpose is to provide opportunities for individuals to grow in virtue; integrity, fortitude, perseverance, humility, and responsibility while growing physically stronger, learning new skills, seeing new sights and experiencing fellowship and leadership opportunities. When preparing our Program schedule, we consider student safety, weather, facilities and individual student ability. The result is an exciting, varied program intended to engage all students no matter what their level of fitness.

"Listen! Young people are the window through which the future enters the world. They are the window, and so they present us with great challenges. Our generation will show that it can rise to the promise found in each young person when we know how to give them space. This means that we have to create the material and spiritual conditions for their full development; to give them a solid basis on which to build their lives; to guarantee their safety and their education to be everything they can be; to pass on to them lasting values that make life worth living; to give them a transcendent horizon for their thirst for authentic happiness and their creativity for the good; to give them the legacy of a world worthy of human life; and to awaken in them their greatest potential as builders of their own destiny, sharing responsibility for the future of everyone. If we can do all this, we anticipate today the future that enters the world through the window of the young". – Pope Francis, World Youth Day; Opening Address, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 23, 2013 ( Zenit.org)
