Clearvision overview Clearvision Lighting has a 15-year pedigree in ergonomic and environmental lighting. We have been at the leading edge of the industry in adopting new technology and design techniques to improve workplaces and reduce energy consumption. Our appreciation of daylight has been apparent from the beginning. One of our first innovations in ergonomics was Virtual Daylight® in 1997, which has since been copied by many other companies. We focus on lens technologies (some patented) that are central to our most successful products. We find that they’re an effective means of optimising design between efficiency, glare control and useful light distribution. Clearvision is a project lighting company with a focus on customer applications for our products. We therefore provide a full technical support service–including Dialux (plug-in available), AutoCAD, emergency test and control systems. The Chiara The Chiara is a surface mounted ceiling luminaire with a simple combination of attractive appearance and high efficiency. The anodised aluminium end caps work well with the curved lens optics to provide crisp and well balanced luminance across the working plane, walls and ceiling. Using high efficiency T5 lamps with good output ratios (up to 72%) will provide a good balance between high efficiency and a well lit space. The Chiara is also a practical luminaire that is easy to maintain (e.g. cleaning and relamping) and with low overall cost of ownership.

Chiara lenses M45 (Standard) The M45 lens is formed from layers of polymer material to provide a very diffuse optic with higher transmission than conventional opal materials. The diffusion is created by combining micro-linear prismatic material with a white diffuse layer. The common hotspot read of the lamp is smoothed out by the microprism whilst diffusion is enhanced. The standard M45 K-series lens is retained within an anodised aluminium frame and into the luminaire via spring loaded polypropylene shootbolts. The end caps are formed of translucent polycarbonate.

Q45 The Q45 lens is constructed from two layers, PETG and Polycarbonate. The lower layer has a number of circular Fresnel radial prism, which create the visible ‘fisheye’ pattern. Both layers are retained within a frame of anodised aluminium extrusion with polycarbonate end caps. The lens is designed for retention within the luminaire body via spring loaded polypropylene shoot bolts. The Q45 optics are the result of the relationship between the radial Fresnel prism and the translucent upper layer, which creates a 3D effect within the module. The light is spread out by the fisheye optics of the radial prisms. Incident light is segmented into the appearance of multiple sources. This combination of optics has a strong visual effect. The lenses are designed for interior use but the optical materials are rated as having good resistance to UV discolouration at exterior levels. The materials – PETG and PC – are both resistant to abrasion and impact which has a Class 1Y, 950°C glow wire, non toxic rating.


Technical The design of the Chiara considered the stress factors determining longevity of surface luminaires. The endcap was a considered point of stress that needed to be robust. The solid aluminium ends of the Chiara are the response to this concern. Ease of maintenance was also an issue. A fitting may look good initially, but if it is difficult to relamp, maintain or clean, it is likely to show signs of wear & tear within a short period. The shootbolt opening lens that can hang free during relamping was considered the best approach to the problems of maintenance. The effectiveness of the fitting was always going to be important. In this meaning effectiveness requires good lighting on both walls and ceiling as well as downwards onto the task area. This efficient spread of light allows the fittings to be spaced further apart than normal.
