S
ummer is finally upon us and welcome to our new issue of Home & Build. In this issue we have some amazing new builds, a passive house, amazing interiors and plenty of ideas to inspire you with your own building project. In this issue taking our cover position is the home of a registered Chartered Architectural Technologist, Dublin man Joe Fallon. With over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry Mr Fallon designs energy efficient buildings with a strong emphasis on natural light and his wonderful home is a testament to his many years’ experience. Flick forward to page 10 to read the full story. Previous readers of Home and Build will be familiar with another architect Patrick Bradley, who owns a multi award winning design led practice creating architecture throughout the UK and Ireland due to his own property gracing our cover. This time round we are delighted to feature Slemish House in Broughshane, County Antrim. The home was designed in a similar form to an agricultural shed but inside its modern, glossy and minimalistic and was built for clients who wanted a bespoke design and to stand out from the crowd. A form of home building that is very popular is the passive house standard. In this issue we feature a new build oak frame passive house in Naas, County Kildare The home owners knew that they wanted an oak-framed house built with structural insulated panels, good U-values, airtightness and heat recovery ventilation. The result is an outstanding property I think you will agree. Along with these above properties we also have an amazing conversion of a cottage and sheds into a beautiful home in Mayo and a surfing house in Sligo, the home of interior designer Audrey Reynolds along with a Dublin mews property Michael Ó Mara of MiD has put his excellent skills to. Finally, in this issue we also take a look at the new VW Passat Alltrack in our motoring section, our bathroom special is a great guide to encourage you to make that long waited bathroom renovation and a host of new and handy gadgets in our New Gear section along with other relevant articles for your new build or renovation project.
