Boston Specialties Hospital - BSC ALAGASCO HOSPITAL DESIGN COMPETITION 2012 2nd PLACE WINNER Located on the edge of the North end of Boston, the Boston Children’s Hospital attempts to engage both the high rise buildings of downton Boston and the residential portion of the North End. It’s sculptural nature sets it apart from the surrounding buildings yet its relationship in height connects it to its surroundings. A strong vertical move on the left side mimics the skyscrapers of downtown Boson while a horizontal member engages street side circulation and invites pedestrians in with a corner cafe and multiple shops along the Eastern portion of the site. With circulation being a critical component through-out the design process, the hospital functions efficiently not only in the horizontal axis but also along the vertical axis as one moves from public areas to private in a time of emergency.

SUMMER OPTION PAVILLION AUBURN, ALABAMA

The objective for the Summer Option Pavillion was to create a sculptural pavillion out of any material we desired using no adhesives. My medium of choice was copper, by folding each panel and creating a slip that would cover the ends of each adjoining panel I was able to create a fastened connection. In doing so I was able to create a sheet of copper and manipulate it into my desired form.

RURAL STUDIO FARM Newbern, Alabama

The Rural Studio Revolution is a way to rethink how we eat, how we build and how we consume energy. As Third-year students we’ve created a five-year master plan and broken the project down into three phases: For the first three years, we’ll become self-sufficient in growing our own food; then we’ll focus on generating and conserving our own energy; and then we’ll look at the building materials we use. Third year spring semester students laid out a new master plan for the Morisette Rural Studio home that takes advantage of the Morisette site. Planning to utilize the land with a “carpet” of raised garden beds in the front yard, a food forest, areas for vertical growing and a new aqueduct system that will provide the entire farm with water.
