The production of a portfolio is always a delicate work,

where you need to show objectively what is best among the various work done and it is essential, while maintaining a consistency between what is being shown. This should suffer from constant updating, because it has a responsibility to demonstrate a journey that has been built.

Family house: project execution

The deployment follows the preferential orientation of the dwelling, with rooms facing east and the areas to be

preferentially oriented to the south, thus reconciling both a good sun exposure and the desire for privacy on the public highway, shown by the owner of the work, with opening virtually all spaces inside the plot.

The program was developed based on this premise, and given the design of the West facade with few fenestrations,

thereby earning natural highlight the great garage door and the set of natural lighting that includes the port of entry

Thus, both the area of rooms, whether the social housing arise predominantly open to the interior of the lot, the latter

being connected to a covered outdoor entertainment area - porch - oriented East / South, with access from the lounge and the barbecue area.

As already indicated, the project has developed as guiding principles, the creation of open spaces and continuing its

relationship with the outside world and thus the best solar orientation for all to build. The house develops on two floors, the ground-floor mostly for the social sciences and rest and the 1st floor of the storage areas.

The proposed building is volumetrically defined by three bodies, juxtaposed, assuming a predominance of them due to their

development in height (2 floors), corresponding to approximately 8.00 meters. Functionally, this volume corresponds to the lounge area, lobby, office, kitchen, bathroom, den and garage.

Of the other two volumes, located North-East functionally corresponds to the private area, home to three quarters (one of

them generous suite with dressing area and bathroom) and a shared bathroom. Concern was essential to equip the house of cabinets and generous storage areas, so that, in addition to the wardrobes in the bedrooms, hallway and also the distribution area annexed to these have been fitted with cupboards. The lighting of interior spaces and overhead will be achieved through generous skylights. Now what lies aa South / East, home to the functions of barbecue, with a wood oven, technical area - with direct access from the outside.

The formal language required, with large pitched roofs, is enhanced through building materials and building system used,

which will be discussed below.

The continuity of space is a reality, there is a deliberate connection between the lobby and common room, only separated

by a screen which houses the stairs to the upper floor. It can easily join in the common room and a porch attached to the barbecue and the top floor have direct contact with asala through the double-height balcony.

Upstairs, in addition to wide area with direct connection to the room, there are three additional compartments, two storage

rooms and a bathroom.

Access to the lot from the public road is via two front gates, a pedestrian with 1.6 meters wide and another for access to

vehicles with 7.5 meters wide.

Arts Centre Agueda: public competition

The installation of equipment of this magnitude is in itself an event that can “transform” the cultural life of a city.

The arts center is asked first of which is constituted as a factor in promotion of cultural sites and potentiates the

production of shows / exhibitions from other places, creating new habits and new audiences. Are also invited to be assumed as a landmark in the landscape, that we put on “tiptoe”, “provoking” the inhabitants and tourists to its passage and opening to your enjoyment.

A building for the arts naturally has an attitude that is projected to the forefront of the architectural point of view and

equipment. Their deployment should be clear to reaffirm that as new centrality as a center catalyst.

The land available, a hinge between the high and low elevation of the city with a deep cut in the presence of topographical

road, rail and a somewhat uncharacteristic surroundings alongside the walls of the city center, required special care in its implementation. It was intended to establish the city with a frank, open, “call” the population to the new building.

The thrust of the project were as follows:

- Retrieve the original topography of the land, once excavated to build the plant, following the coordinates of

contact with the surrounding roads;

- Assume the chimney of the old factory as a reference point, dropping it altogether, like an enormous sculpture

evoking the past (future?) industrial;

- Create a new route between high and low elevation, regardless of the route to the West and that “requiring” pass

through “inside” the building;

- Open a plaza to the south, in dialogue and exposed to the sun and city.

We tried to read a building both simple and so much of its character and in his presence. Received particular attention to volume ratio that is established with the existing residential area to the north and the gable (rear) of detached houses facing the ground, which by its presence should be mitigated wherever possible.

Volumetrically, the building is defined as an inclined plane that takes as its existing quotas on roads surrounding the lot,

followed them. In this plan goes against a background oblique divergent in relation to the first slope, which corresponds to the volume of the auditorium who naturally stands out. At the intersection of the two, a third plane cuts vertically the first to resume the quota for the current parking lot, drawing a plateau / open plaza to the south and the city is located where the entrance and cafeteria.

Were naturally followed the directions contained in the terms of reference of the tender in respect of areas.

We tried to design the functionality and operability of the various areas that includes the arts center.

Feet were considered appropriate rights to the various functions of the arts center. In the exhibition halls were considered with different heights, always with a minimum ceiling height of 4.20m.

Based on the characteristics of the spaces that make the arts center for natural lighting received particular attention. The

exhibition spaces rely almost exclusively to the zenith lighting. The educational area, and a direction of the exhibition rooms will be lit by courtyards that provide soft light and reflected, providing peace of mind to work / develop activities. The foyer and coffee bar open up naturally to the South and the square, has been set visors shade / protection for the hot days and where you can smoke indoors. Due to their specificity the auditorium was finished completely. It was considered natural cross ventilation system around the center, taking advantage of patios / skylights, the use of strips of ventilation in the exterior window frames. Ensure the renewal of air needed for good quality interior.

The exterior is marked by two moments. At low elevation in the aforementioned plateau / open square in the city, pontificate

entrance, bar, terrace, and service entrances. At high elevation in a slightly inclined and in contact with the residential area near the top of the building turns into a green space for public enjoyment, where skylights / patios assume leadership, and proposing a green maze, where you can become installed a playground.

The skylights / patios are key elements of this plan. Function as blocks / sculptures in a plane tilted green and that, by taking

a share constant at its top, visually reinforce the inclination of the same, creating a game of illusion.

08 Family house: house V

The idealization of this house came primarily from a deep analysis of their land and territory in which it will enter. It

was more of a suit to a construction site of large, thus creating an integration / harmonious relationship between building and landscape.

The building’s main premise its orientation / exposure to sunlight, thus obtaining a better distribution formal and

functional. This premise means that its composition is somewhat bold, acquiring the V configuration, getting the best combination between form and function. This is mainly to create a home that is open to the ground, creating a link between primary and secondary spaces, allowing a sort of scenery in the surrounding environment, each point is a different place of contemplation, a kind of game of sensations. Given the terrain having a north / south, the house was designed in order to take maximum advantage of natural light and heating.

Another aspect to consider is the proximity of the Maya National Steel (X) and visibility of Y) .Given this proximity, one of

the most concern was to divert the gaze of the same user, coordinating the volume so that the eyes were directed to other parts of the land, home, neighborhood and houses, causing him to be unaware of this proximity .

X

Y

The design of the house is their starting point the assumptions described above, as well as the programmatic separation

into two relatively distinct forms of bodies. Are two independent bodies that are differentiated from deprived social areas.

To access the driveway, the user is taken through a journey that takes you to an opening in the main elevation, which will

then reveal a bare courtyard, which is a prelude to the moment of entry into the house ... The moment this comes courtyard the desire to create a reference to a rural element, ie create a kind of cloister we find in the solar, the latter having the function of receiving and distributing the user. This patio has the feel of the user that is already inside the house, although is still overseas...

Family house: houses germinated

Housing units developed according to the requirements dictated by the promoter, the best measure of the intended

audience a more “global” in order to get a broader view with the model being developed. It isthe background in two distinct phases of construction ,a first ( left) and a second and current ( right) with trims, tones and details in any way different from before. It applies the same model, but changes to the details, so you can record two intentions, two distinct wanting.

Architecture and Sustainability: thesis epigraphs

Architecture is an art in constant change and updating throughout history we can see that she was changing, both at

the conceptual or constructive, even to our time as contemporary architecture. Since this current state, a major contributor to environmental degradation and land that all witness. We can see now, that architecture is changing, much has been said and written, some legislation was set up in order to regulate the construction, but the main measure to be adopted is that of relearning, or recover old principles and methods the architectural composition, so that inter-relate with existing technologies, and thus can be a lower environmental impact, lower energy consumption and greater integration with the environment.

The architecture in addition to, being the art of building that is both functional aspects, and aesthetic construction of

buildings and structures, is also an activity with multiple components, including sustainability has to be part, as this is concerned with the process development, integration and implementation of a building.

There is no intention with this thesis, offer solutions or recipes, but rather a set of ideas or different ingredients, which

allow to discuss in what way is that the building can provide answers to their needs, without ever calling into question the design and architectural language and without the insertion site.

Support Center Wanderer

The village of Guadramil, far from having the importance dynamism of the past, is now an almost deserted village and

lost the territory Montes, situated in a wide valley, belonging to the Natural Park Montesinho. This like many others, formerly lived in a communal spirit, which over time was self-sufficient, able to offer goods and services essential to the livelihood of the population, but all that faded away over the main economic activities.

The buildings selected for intervention, are located north of the village and develop a threading around a main access,

which directs our gaze to the “square”in the village, and most important place of prominence. Basically this is really to speak with a rural architecture, with grotesque features, heavy, and denoting the austerity of Tras-osMontes.

The buildings are north of this, creating a relationship between them almost zero since each one has its own identity,

being more strongly to the mill, the community building. As for the building / ruin your identity is just for starters notorious pre-existence of a stone that has been tampered with by an interpretation of local models, crudely represented.

The approach to the space passes through the mill conversion, a micro power generating plant, taking advantage of

the energy of water for the benefit of the village, keeping your existing configuration, changing only the rotation and the grinding system, by a new system to convert water power into electricity.

About building / ruin, is to ascertain that the small plot of land is in quotes for the building, thus resulting in one of the main

ideas of the project which is to leave the ruin as intact as possible, ie clear all that building that was crudely constructed, leaving the thick stone walls and slate, exposed and released. Another concept involves the reversal of the situation, leaving the gap obtained by “clean the ruin to build, and build on his empty hand, the small parcel, which now is full becomes empty and vice versa, not building in ruins, but building with ruin.

Let it thus ruin with its historicity intact, creating a new scenario, a new neighborhood, a new building. This building

that now occupies the land is nothing more than the same area and perimeter of ruin, a spin on this corner, thus forming a set of repercussions. Every building respects the ruin, but more than that, regarding what was existing.

Conceptual scheme to alter the way the physical space of Guadramil. Evolutionary process, the various stages of

development, looking for more solid solution, in order to better respond to local needs.

Creating a welcoming environment for mountain adventurers since, is one of Guadramil adeias, part of the route of the

footpaths of Natural Park Montesinho.

Expository Storehouse of Contemporary Art

The proposal for the warehouse of art “holds the Serralves”, is included in the urban Antas, specifically in the region of

Campanha. Being known the existence of a detailed plan for the site, designed by the architect Manuel Salgado, it essentially somehow strengthen this attempted rehabilitation of an area that remains oblivious to the city of Porto.

This plan has no doubt trying to start a “staple” of a mesh of random city without any structural logic, with no hierarchy.

Attempts at urban background to be a catalyst, as it introduces new features that allow the “consumption space / commercial” who dwells in the eastern area of the city without having to resort to other locations around the city.

Basically, the proposal goes through the warehouse implementation of this premise, allowing for a more consolidated

and cohesive mending the urban fabric.

The warehouse of art, it develops on a morphological basis, based on the principles of the fragmentation of the mass

volume, assuming a tectonic nature, creating all sorts of places and relationships with local and city. This seeks to integrate urban, trying to mend with the nearby buildings including the former slaughterhouse Campanh達.

The entrance is through a sense of attraction, where the user is constantly attracted by open spaces that will be unfolding

that way if it enters the building.

The interior space is developed according to the requirements of an area protesiano, ie, the warehouse is formed by

successive layer where the main body is the storehouse, and all other appendicitis that integrate to other activities that might exist. The warehouse serves as a template, and all the rest are fitting dentures that go into each other.

Urban Intervention: housing, commerce and escrit贸tios.

Almost like a complete blank puzzle, the organization of the program was drawn up neatly, so that the projected

volumes, imitate their presence and are identified by their public nature of a simple and sophisticated at the same time, not hurting the beauty space, which lies above the waters of the Douro River, near the mouth.

Through this intervention, the intention is to establish a positive relationship with the place for formalizing important

centers of public life by revitalizing the spaces and activities nearby.

The proposal shown above, contribute to a quality experience with all the space, reinforcing the continuity and

qualitative enhancement of the existing urban area and surrounding lands, seeking a balance between the parties, including existing and proposed.

Will not interfere with or injure the beauty of the place makes it known to our eyes, we try to go into space, in a natural way and without any visual shock. Architecture to not kill a site, to have an impact on work, life is full it possessed responding to problems and beautify themselves, responding to needs.

05 Housing complex

Under the proposed problem for the design of temporary and permanent housing, the framers of the principles

proposed are based substantially on the block shot. While he was flanked by several altimetry, the proposal goes through to transition these various urban scales, arranging a link between them, leading to various points of connection and continuity.

Beyond this concern, another of great importance and has contributed to the gesture of the volumetric proposed

for the site, was the attempt to create continuity in Alameda, since this finishes off against the lot and into the buildings side, leaving somewhat destitute of any connection and relationship with the surroundings, thus creating a thread, a beginning and end. With this continuity, we try to create a visual rhythm, given the provisions of volumetric buildings to be proposed, linking them with the surroundings.

Among the volumes, it creates empty spaces (leaves), leading to bigger and better living space with public space.

Creeping level, there is no type of housing, because if it did, would conflict with the degrees of use and privacy, because

by not talking about security as well as in conflict with the experience of space inside the block. So lets make this area is passable, the user can walk through it in a book, your free will, thereby gaining a more human character.

Art Gallery: temporary housing luigi benzoni

The proposed Art Gallery to deploy on the ground, tries to make the connection between past and present. The area

where the land is located, lies between farms, where farming, vineyards and the water was a predominance. Therefore, the project was conceived from a concept which is based on creating an architectural work that is not merely an object but that is a room where people can walk and live. This has been designed according to the use of alignments of surrounding buildings, and they set the direction and volume altimetry.

The building by its formal character tries to convey a certain calm serenity, which is almost all orthogonal, just playing

with the feelings of the routes. This new set of volumes, in the background, try to enjoy the sensations of the place features, since it is housed in so-called “romantic paths, paths which are transmitting fragrances nostalgic and very own site, the chaste historicist site.

The entrance is marked by a large flap that marks all the way until the same, the blade acquires volumetric nature when

combining volume of the gallery, forming a semi-enclosed body.

The organization of the gallery is divided into two floors, the first floor houses a gallery, a small reception, a public toilet

and a bar, and or / c contains workshop and temporary housing Luigi Benzoni when traveling to Porto.

“Most people make the mistake of thinking that design is the appearance. People think this is veneer - that the designers are handed this box and said, “Let beautiful!”This is not what we think design is. It’s not just what appears and feels. Design is how it works. “
