THE STORY

ENJOY MARFA In a remote area of the United States, surrounded by the arid desert of sand and thorns of western Texas, there is a mystical and fascinating place that can help you forget the frenzy of the metropolis for the time of a holiday, or for the whole life. In a society that often does not even allow time to breathe, Marfa gives you the opportunity to enjoy the beauty of time that flows, slowly. Art, just like silence, has an extraordinary therapeutic power on those who have the sensitivity to understand it. They are able to make us reflect on ourselves and on our deeper inner self. In this place, where nature embraces art and silence, a combination of sensations flows in succession, without haste.

Because yes, everyone needs his time to research and find himself.

Whether you aim to remember history or forget it, live at large or only get away for the weekend, write your novel or just find a great place to read one Welcome to Marfa.

THE LOCATION

MARFA, TEXAS Marfa is a city located in far West Texas in the county seat of Presidio County at the junction of US Highway 90 and 67. It is surrounded by the Davis Mountains on the north, by the Chisos Mountains in the southeast, and by the Chinati Mountains on the southwest. It was established in 1883 as a water stop and freight headquarters for the Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway. The name MARFA comes from a character of Fyoder Dostoyevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov and now this city has a history of attracting creative spirits.

Until the 1970’s, Marfa was best known for the ghost lights and the film location for James Dean’s final picture the “GIANT,” also starring Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and Dennis Hopper. The area around Marfa is known as a cultural center for contemporary artists and artisans. In 1971, Donald Judd, the renowned minimalist artist, moved to Marfa from New York City with the intention of permanently installing his art. Since Judd’s death in 1994 the Chinati foundation and the Judd Foundation have worked to maintain his legacy.
