As we get ready to wind down and take a breath er, we decided to reflect on some of the wonderful reasons  to  celebrate  the  year  that  was. Yes,  we  can  talk  about  some  of  the  lowlights as well (no pun on the word ‘lights’), but that would not  be  very  festive  at  all. The team at the Fever has had a wonderful year and has shared some truly remarkable memories with  you.  We’ve had an actionpacked year from meeting wonderful  individuals  who  are  slowly  changing their communities one step at a time to covering campaigns that shows a proactive community who are willing to fight for their beloved home towns. Through the difficult times, our readers have once again proven that we are, without a doubt, among the most resilient and strong-willed. We have weathered all the storms that came our way and have demonstrated that we can be a community to be proud of - from our disabled horse rider achieving his goals to a local woman beating breast cancer and becoming an inspiration to others - our community stands together proud! We are confident that 2015 will be better than ever. We, at The Hillcrest Fever, have faced our

Dear Readers, TODAY marks the end of another year for the Hillcrest Fever, and as the festivities kick off for this season, let us reflect on moments that touched our lives and the community this past year. 2014 has been marked by persistent challenges in our economy with price inflations (food, electricity, fuel, etc.). We had weather catastrophes and crime

ANC members protested outside the ANC offices in Pietermaritzburg last Thursday.

LETHIWE MAKHANYA >>lethiwe.makhanya@media24.com

ARD 21 councillor and regional executive committee (REC) member of the African National Congress (ANC) in the Moses Mabhida Region, Mntuza Mkhize, has accused the ANC leadership of putting their personal interest ahead of the regional conference and that of the organisation. Speaking at the picket last Thursday outside the ANC offices in Berg Street, Mkhize elaborated on corruption that is allegedlyhappening in the

region. He said one of the reasons why they were picketing is because they want to see the ruling party back on track and without corruption. “This is our campaign of fighting corruption in the region. One of the things that is of concern to us is the preparations for the regional conference. It seems to be going very slowly because the people involved want to protect their positions. “We want the national executive committee of the ANC to disband this REC. When they [leadership] are preparing for the regional conference,

there must be a task team to control how branch general meetings sit because our regional secretary calls an extended REC meeting without meeting with other members of the REC. “That is not how we work in the ANC. We work together, that is why it is called ‘collective leadership’,”he said. Msawenkosi “Qashana” Mchunu, an ANC member who was also a part of the picket, said they are fighting against the way the ANC leadership at the Moses Mabhida region are handling ANC matters. “They are removing people from their roles in the ANC and they don’t

want others to join. “They are buying memberships for the people they want in the branches of the ANC. They are also using police officers and bodyguards to stop ANC members from being part of the ANC meetings where they will raise their concerns and also elect the leadership. “All these things are against the ANC constitution, that is why we started this campaign. “We are determined to continue until we are addressed by the national leadership on the issues that we have because we do not trust the regional

leadership to provide us with any solutions to our problems. We also do not trust the provincial leadership,” he said. ANC regional secretary Mzi Zuma called the picket was “political thuggery”. He said the region had explained to the different ANC branches, the timelines and the procedure leading to both the provincial and regional conference.“Those who have complaints about the processes should lodge complaints within the provincial dispute structure which is centralised.“ANC members know how to address their complaints,” he said.

THE KZN Education Department says it will investigate allegations that millions of rands are being wasted on sanitary towels at well-off schools. The National Teachers’ Union (Natu) in the province had called on Education Minister Angie Motshekga to probe the alleged misuse of funds. She is expected to meet Natu leadership soon. Reports suggest that over 30 schools in KZN were flooded with hundreds of thousands of sanitary towels that are not needed at those schools.

receiving the supply. This programme is not designed for those schools and we can’t be providing for them. We are targeting schools in Umsinga and Manguze that have a serious need for this programme.” Nzama said he did not know the company appointed by the national department for the tender. He said the tender for the sanitary towels was a national open tender for all provinces to use. “We did not advertise and there was no obligation for us to advertise because it was an open tender managed by our national government,” he said.

Female poet releases her first CD LETHIWE MAKHANYA >>lethiwe.makhanya@media24.com

G

ROWING up in the Khokhwane area in Elandskop, Bongeka “Mbongikazi“Zuma (24) never knew that one day she would become a poet. An office administration secondyear student,Zuma released her first CD containing poetry last Wednesday. The CD has 13 poems, which are all Zuma’s original work. Speaking to Echo, Zuma said it was her primary school teacher who identified her talent. “When I was in Grade 7 at Langside Primary School, we used to have a talent show at school every Friday. I chose to do what I thought was motivation but my teacher told me that it was poetry. She told me that I am very talented and that I should continue. Since then I have never looked back. “I started competing with other schools and as I wrote more poems, my love for it grew stronger. Now poetry is my life,”she said. She said that releasing a CD this year was not part of her plans but her fans encouraged her to do it. “Every time I finished a performance they would come running to me, asking for my CD, which I did not have. Because I didn’t want to disappoint them, I took a decision and went to a studio. It took me only two months to finish because I already had so many poems that I had

I am very grateful for their support. I urge them to continue to support me and I will continue and give them the best.” Zuma said her CD is a combination of praise and creative poetry and it features maskandi musician Isingqazu Sensizwa. “I wanted it to be different that is why I

Hip-hop artist Razor to relaunch his album LETHIWE MAKHANYA >>lethiwe.makhanya@media24.com A HIP-HOP artist from Imbali Unit 1, Nkosinathi “Razor” Ndlela (22), will relaunch his album titled Rayville next month at Broadway Lifestyle in Imbali. Speaking to Echo, Ndlela said his album was released last year but feels it did not get the attention it deserved. “It did not go abroad as we expected, and that is why my recording company, Pit Records, and I decided to relaunch it.” He said he started his music journey at the age of 11 while he was still in primary school. “I come from a music background. My mother was a vocalist and my father plays music instruments. I started singing at school and started recording songs in a studio in 2011. Since I do not have a voice to become a vocalist like my mother or play instruments like my

father, I decided to take the route of hip-hop because it has become another means of communicating with the youth,” he said. He said his album has 15 tracks and one of the songs is already playing on Channel O on DSTV, channel 320. “This album is big. We want to re-introduce it to our people first. They have been with us every step of the way, supporting us, and that is why we feel that they deserve this launch. “In this album I will introduce my fans to me,‘Razor’, as a person. I’ll take them through my journey and the challenges that I face while trying to make music, as well as my plans for the future in music. I want to inspire them with music and tell them not to give up,” he said. He said that although he has a public management degree from Durban University of Technology, Riverside Campus, his passion is music and he wants to focus on it.

featured a maskandi musician.I wanted it to have an African rhythm because I want to encourage people not to forget their roots. It talks about the things that are happening in our lives, especially the youth. It also praises all the people who helped me through my journey, including my fans.” She said her dream is to become a radio or television presenter of shows that talk about culture or poetry. To purchase Zuma’s CD contact her via her Facebook page: Bongeka Mongikazi Mafahleni.

COME AND SEE MIRACLES WITH MAMA HUSNA AND MAKE 2018 YOUR YEAR OF SUCCESS I am Kiran Naidoo 38 years from Khan Road, thank you so much Mama Husna for making me happy again, after being disappointed by so many doctors. I went to Mama Husna with R120 only and she gave me mutuba stick to put under my bed and dreamt 6 winning lotto numbers which I couldn’t believe but when I played them I won 16million, bought a new house, brand new car and cleared all my debts. Oh my God, I now believe in miracles and I am happy again with my family. I am Shenise from Raisethorpe Thanks to Mama Husna for bringing back my husband who had left me for 2 years. When I went to mama Husna she burnt some muthi for me, asked me for my husbands names which I gave her and when I went home after 6 hours my husband phoned me and told me he wants to come back and since then we are happy and my family is all together now. If you don’t believe in miracles, come see then by yourself with mama Husna because she can solve different problems like court cases, unfinished jobs, casino and many more.

Kulezinsuku i-Safa ilokhu ihlokolozwa ithuswa ngemithetho yayo ekusomqulu wayo. Ngasekupheleni kwesonto eledlule uMnuz Mumble wabiza umhlangano wezintatheli nalapho ayebhodla khona umlilo aze asho ukuthi kukhonaiqeqebane labantu namaphephandaba afuna ukucekela phansi i-Safa. Uthi kuyaxaka ukuthi sebebaningi manje abantu abalokhu bekhomba amaphutha kusomqulu nasemthethweni wokukhethwa kwezikhulu zalenhlangano. UMnuz Mumble uthi kukhona nje abazimisele ngokufafaza amanga nezindaba ezingekho nge-Safa. “Usomqulu kanye nemithetho eminingi ye-Safa yakhiwa ngokulandela imigomo ka-Fifa. Emasontweni amabili uMzansi

nomhlaba wonke wathuswa wukufika kwesikhulu se-Fifa uMnuz Véron Mosengo-Omba ukuze ahlanganise uMnuz Ncobo ne-Safa. Kanti kubikwa ukuthi i-Safa isalokhu izibuze njalo ngokuhloswe ukuqhamuka kwamahlebezi ashiwo yilowo osola uMnuz Danny Jordaan, onguMengameli weSafa ngokumnukubeza ngokocansi. The Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk on May 20 has a race pace and distance for everyone. All you have to do is #FindYourPace. There are three walking routes to choose from: five kilometre, 10 km and 20 km. There is also a new nine-kilometre fun run. Participants in all events will make their way along the promenade, from uShaka Marine World to Moses Mabhida People’s Park. In another first this year, some of East Coast Radio’s presenters will also walk and run, including the ECR Breakfast team, Jane LinleyThomas, Thandolwethu, the Drive team and Damon Beard. East Coast Radio general manager Boni Mchunu said: “We’re so proud that the Discovery East Coast Radio Big Walk has grown to become a highlight on the province’s events calen-

dar. In an exciting addition this year we have included a charity element. A portion of every entry fee received will go towards Saint Giles, a non profit organisation in Durban for the disabled.” Discovery’s head of experiential marketing and sponsorships, Iona Maclean, said the event continues to bring Durban families from various backgrounds together each year to walk side-by-side along the promenade. “Physical activity is important in leading a healthy lifestyle and we are proud that we have been getting Durban families walking for 10 years,” Maclean said. Participants are encouraged to take picnic baskets to enjoy great entertainment at the finish. Entries are open and if you enter by April 15, ticket prices are discounted, and you stand the chance of winning a weekend away at Champagne Sports Resort valued at R12 000.
