Club Snapshot: This Month… This month has been a little more hectic than the months before. We volunteered at three events on consecutive Saturdays of April. It consisted of Kiwanis One Day, Children’s Faire, and Casino Night. Kiwanis One Day was successful and the members who went had a great time outdoors. Children’s Faire had an amazing turnout; since there were so many volunteers, the work was less tiring and more enjoyable. Casino Night was probably my favorite event of the month because the adults there allowed us to eat some of the food there! April has been a good month for our Key Club.

Kiwanis One Day!

April 6th, 2013: Kiwanis One Day brought together all the levels of Kiwanis: Builders Club, Key Club, Circle K, and Kiwanians! At Alum Rock Park, everyone helped make the park a better place to hike by using tools to weed and to widen the hiking trails. Overall, it was a successful day; thank you to everyone who attended this event and helped out!

25th Annual San Jose Children’s Fair!

April 13th, 2013: Key Clubbers volunteered at the 25th Annual San Jose Children’s Fair! They worked at activities and stations for children, helped out at the volunteer check-in table, and more! Secretary Tiffany Su said, “Children’s Fair was a blast! Lots of people came, and the weather was really nice. Everybody had a great time, and you should all definitely go next year!”

April DCM!

April 14th, 2013: At Santa Clara High School, our Lieutenant Governor, Allysa Foot, held her first Division Council Meeting (DCM)! There was an egg toss that helped fundraise for Pediatric Trauma Prevention (PTP), and Allysa also discussed many important topics regarding the division, including fundraising, upcoming events, and a review of last month’s District Convention (DCON).

Casino Night!

April 20th, 2013: Westmont Key Clubbers dressed to impress as they wore semiformal attire to help out at Casino Night! At this event, they baked brownies, made pasta, and prepared lots of different types of food. They also served this food to the buffet tables! It was a really enjoyable event; they even got to eat some of the food there. According to historian Sarah Malone, the food at Casino Night was “awesome and amazing.”

Upcoming Events! Kiwanis Special Games—Friday, May 17, 2013 Where/When: De Anza College. 9:00am-1:00pm. The Kiwanis Special Games was created to address the physical and emotional needs of extremely challenged children. At this event, we will be leading a small group of children around a mini Olympics course or help out at a game station to give these children a chance to be the center of attention through positive achievement. Because this event involves missing a school day, we are looking for responsible, hardworking, and committed Key Clubbers who are capable of caring for a group of children. All permission slips should have already been turned in. For those attending, there will be an informational meeting regarding transportation at lunch in room 60 on Tuesday, May 14th.

Boogie on the Bayou—Saturday and Sunday, May 18-19, 2013 Where/When: Downtown Campbell. (Saturday): 9:00am-1:00pm, 1:00pm-5:00pm, (Sunday): 9:30am-1:30pm, 1:30pm-5:30pm. Boogie on the Bayou is a festival that our Key Club holds a booth at every year with the Campbell Kiwanis! Like at Oktoberfest, we will be selling pretzels and lemonade to raise money for the Kiwanis club; however, this year, we also have a photo booth! We need TEN volunteers for each shift, so please check the sign up sheet in room 60 to see what available shifts are open!

MLK Library's Summer Reading Celebration Kick-off Event—Sunday, June 2, 2013 Where/When: MLK Library. 12:00pm-4:00pm. The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Library is having its second Summer Reading Celebration Kick-off Event! This is an event that involves a scavenger hunt and activities and crafts for all ages. We can take any number of volunteers, so if you’re interested, be sure to come by and sign up in room 60!

New Website! The club website has been moved and redesigned! The new URL for the club website is http://westmontkeyclub.weebly.com. It is easier to navigate and will be updated more often! You can also view the number of hours you have and find information on upcoming events.
