Results are collated

Report is made available on Appraisal Toolkit

APPRAISAL TOOLKIT

Multi-Source Feedback Peer and Patient feedback is an essential part of the revalidation process and aids understanding about performance. We offer an integrated service which allows for feedback to be completed electronically.

PEER AND PATIENT ONLINE MSF Questionnaires are sent to patient or peer email addresses for completion and users can monitor the number of completed responses and opt-outs. There is also an option to send reminders to those who have not responded. The online MSF system offers more control, is more environmentally friendly and is often quicker to produce results than paperbased cycles.

In addition to collecting peer and patient feedback, self-assessment of practice is incorporated into results to provide a comprehensive insight into an individual’s practice.

SELF ASSESSMENT Both Peer and Patient MSF cycles require the completion of an electronic self assessment questionnaire. When the results report is generated, the responses from external feedback can be easily compared with the personal views of the Clinician.

24

APPRAISAL TOOLKIT

Multi-Source Feedback Appraisal Toolkit has two additional paper-based patient services to enhance our online MSF. These are options offered to Administrators to tailor Appraisal Toolkit to the organisation’s requirements.

PAPER-BASED MSF The paper-based service collects responses from patients who may be unable or unwilling to offer feedback online. MSF packs can be ordered through Appraisal Toolkit and contain the following: • • • •

Distribution instructions Regular print questionnaires Large print questionnaires Freepost envelope to return questionnaires in bulk

Packs are dispatched quickly and can be delivered to a UK address of your choice. When all of the required responses have been returned, results are processed and returned electronically, ready for reflection and submission in an appraisal. SELF-SERVICE MSF Organisations may choose to opt out of the managed service and use their administration resources. Self service MSF allows Clinicians and Administrators to print patient questionnaires for distribution. Completed questionnaires are returned to the organisation’s Administrators for inputting. When all of the required responses have been input, results are processed ready for reflection.

Case Study South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust When South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust identified a requirement for a solution to automate their staff appraisal processes, they approached Clarity Informatics. The company is an industry leader in Health Informatics and its Appraisal Toolkit for Secondary Care is the result of extensive research, development and listening to acute customers’ requirements.

Background South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust has been consistently recognised as one of the best performing FTs in the country, and in 6 of the last 7 years, South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust has been ranked in the top 40 hospitals nationally by the independent benchmarking company CHKS.

We lacked the ability to carry out a multiple-source feedback collection with colleagues and patients and were looking for an appropriate solution. Clarity’s Appraisal Toolkit provides this functionality and also enables the user to arrange appraisals quickly and easily, fully automating the appraisal process.”

When the Trust started to investigate electronically completing appraisals in line with the Responsible Officer scheme, they contacted Clarity Informatics to find out more about their solutions.

The solution is proven to simplify the management of the appraisal system and to save time for Clinicians completing their appraisals and ultimately makes the administration of appraisals easier for all users.

Shaz Wahid is a Consultant Physician and also the Trust’s Associate Responsible Officer. He explains: “I first came across Clarity’s Appraisal Toolkit when we were looking into strengthening our appraisal process in preparation for Revalidation and to support our Responsible Officer.
