1.1 PROBLEM #1 - TOURISM As I see it my project attempts to address two overreaching problems which face the Municipality of Venice. 1.1 Venice - Problem Tourism Growth Of the Venetian Islands 7KH9HQHWLDO$UFKLSHODJREHJDQDVDQXQVWDEOHPXGĂ DWLQWKHPLGGOHRI WKH/DJRRQ,QWKHWK&HQWXU\UHIXJHHVIURPWKHPDLQODQGĂ HGWRWKH archipelago to escape Germanic and Hun invasions. 7KHPRUHZHDOWK\IDPLOLHVSODFHGDFODLPRQLQGLYLGXDOLVODQGVE\ commissioning churches to be built on consolidated sites close to the ZDWHU7KHVHFKXUFKHVEHFDPHWKHUDGLDOQRGHIRUIXWXUHGHYHORSPHQW DQGFRQVROLGDWLRQRIWKHLVODQGV )URPWKHWK&HQWXU\IDPLOLHVEHJDQWRFRQVWUXFWDURZRIPRUH permanent palazzos which addressed the church while establishing the SHULPHWHURIWKHFDPSR'HYHORSPHQWWKHQFRQWLQXHGUDGLDOO\RXWIURPWKH FKXUFK0DLQWDLQLQJWKHFDPSRDVDEXIIHUEHWZHHQFKXUFKDQGSDOD]]R DVZHOODVDFOHDUDGGUHVVIURPWKHFKXUFKHVIDFDGHWRWKHFDQDO$WWKLV WLPHWKHLVODQGDQGLWVIDEULFDUHG\QDPLFDQGDEOHWRUHVSRQGWRFKDQJHV in porosity and program. 7KH,VODQGVFRQWLQXHGLQWKLVPDQQHUXQWLOLQWKHWKFHQWXU\ZKHQ GHYHORSPHQWIUR]H7KLVFRLQFLGHGZLWKWKHDGYHQWRIWRXULVPLQ9HQLFH where the city became a destination on the the Grand tour.

_the first Church of Santa Maria is built, and with it the Campo begins to take its form.

_palazzos are built by the family who commisoned the church, these not only address the church but further establish the Campos edge.

_ the island grows centrifugally out from the Campo towards the north east. A single row of perimiter buildings now encloses the Campo. A bell tower is added to the church.

_the island is given a sea wall, the campo is paved and the built fabric has largely taken the form that we see today.

Conclusion From this we can conclude that Venice has reached its limit.
