In the second studio and lecture, we learnt about the design and usage of hinged structures. We found that structures using a triangular design could hold the greatest load while still remaining functional, when compared to spherical, rectangular or other shaped designs. These lightweight designs could be mass produced and stacked.
In the first studio and lecture, we leant about the design and usage of compressive structures. In groups, we built towers out of entirely compressed bricks, with the caveat that the tower must have an entrance and enough space to house a toy elephant. As seen in the photo above, the entrance was shaped in an inverted v, akin to an arch. This is due to the way that the entrance divides weight, splitting the load outwards. ÂŠLisa Hoac
