REVELING ACUPUNCTURE Il Rivelino Ticino Studio Summer 2010 Group Project Kyle Usselton

The purpose of this project is to reveal the hidden treasure of Leonardo di Vinci’s Il Rivellino and to serve as a major transitional space between Piazza Grande and the Galfeti Piazza. To achieve this we have done architectural acupuncture on the structures surrounding the Rivellino, which re-exposes and re-identifies the Rivellino and brings the people of Locarno closer to their history. To help the concept we have created a series of vertical boxes that rotate to accomplish large directional views over the Rivellino and serve as a place of leisure and entertainment. For the circulation we have connected Via Franchino Rusco to the roof of the Rivellino where all the circulation begins. The circulation is accomplished through a series of loops that bring you back to the roof of the Rivellino and allows for easy circulation throughout the structures and the varying levels of the exterior street.
