He is a very nice guy, but he is a terrible pro with zero personality. The improvement we saw when Jason replaced Fred is what we should be looking for in the Pro. 4. The entire clubhouse management needs to be replaced. The club should never loose a sale on a new product to Dicks, Kens, or the internet because its 5-15% less. A little profit beats no profit! The pool has improved a bit in recent years. However, more work needs to be done to improve the condition of the changing room/bathroom. The grass area could be enlarged such that the area down the bank on the south east side was utilized - on busy days there really isn't enough room, and this could be a relatively easy fix. 3. The pool area should never be used for outside functions, nor should the diving board be taken out of service because of a non-member wedding/function being held out in the old first fairway. The pool is effectively "in use" for about 6 to 8 weeks per year, and many of the members that use it are very high margin members (social and/or full members who don't use the rest of the Club much). 11/9/2013 6:08 AMView Responses Never used. My dissatisfaction stems from two sources. First, the hijacking of the club governance mechanism by a few individuals who, for lack of a better phrase, felt they were the smartest guys in the room. The previous system may have been noisy, inefficient & cumbersome but isn't that also an apt description of the democratic process. At any one time, 10%+ of the membership were involved in helping to manage our club. Many ideas & many perspectives with the corresponding debates & criticisms they engendered, helped keep the club vibrant & the membership interested. Now we have a Board within the Board (the Operations Committee) with some members more equal than others. With this ill-advised concentration of power, there is more opportunity of bad or questionable decisions. A small example: Do you think that a committee would have purchased those silly chairs for our dining room? My second source of dissatisfaction is related to the first, i.e. the general manager concept. A wonderful theory but,practically speaking, a solution in search of a problem. Hence the circular argument: Why do we need a general manager? The new governance structure calls for one. Why did we change that structure? So we could have a general manager. It is intellectually dishonest to change our governance & then complain that our volunteer president (and others) can't keep up with the volume of work. I also feel that the GM discussion, at least as presented to the membership, appeared to take place in a financial vacuum. This is not an investment in land, equipment or bricks-and-mortar but in overhead, a dubious proposition. Do we have a capital fund? a rainy-day fund? The GM discussion should be part of a larger one that involves the costs a new clubhouse roof, sewer line and pool improvements, not to mention ongoing maintenance projects. We joined so that the kids would have a place to get wet. There is not much competition out there, besides town pools in Essex and Vergennes. I am paying extra for crowd control and a snack bar and for us the distance is a reasonable commute. We do also enjoy meeting up with friends and bringing friends to the pool. In the end, it have given our family some nice summer memories, an on-demand summer activity and a place to cool off on the very hot days. As an intermediate member, I got the majority of my golf in on week nights and Mulligans was closed on most nights by the time I got there. I golfed over 40 complete rounds this summer and saw a drink cart on three occasions. Access to tee times was NOT as described. In my tour I was told that access to earlier tee times would be granted after 5:00pm on Wednesdays, this was simply not true. Finally, billing should be available online and via credit card. I was astounded that the club still did not offer online payment and various payment options. Many younger members cannot make it to the club during the day on week days to visit the office and make payments. Also, the club should probably invest in a new website. The dated look and inadequate cell-phone functionality really date the club. Practice facilities are poor for a club of this quality, as you know, and the balls are picked up far too early.
