IPPA NEWS UPDATE International Pitch and Putt Forum Rome – 28 October 2011

It was a massive number of players who had made their inscriptions, in total 106 players from nine countries. This was too many and forced the Tournament Director to make changes and only 18 holes were played day one and two. At the end, 86 players showed up for the Competition. Rome was showing its sunny side with sun and temperatures around 20-22ºc, excellent weather to play.

The general comments from the guest speakers and delegates are that it was a good initiative to gather Golfers and Pitch and Putt people to be able to discuss the sport and its development. Every one concluded that Pitch and Putt is golf except from the two Irish speakers who said “it is close but not the same”. The Forum was a success and many thanks must go to Carlo Farioli, President of Italy Pitch and Putt, and his team and the Italy Golf Federation for organizing all in an excellent way. More about the Forum can be read on the IPPA web page. www.i-pp-a.org

10th Italy International Open 29-30 October First it must be mentioned that the competition was moved from Green Tiber Club one week before the Championship, due to unforeseen circumstances, to the Golf Club Parco dei Medici. Thank you to Carlo Farioli and his team that they managed to organize all in the last minute.

The first day was very competitive with 17 players under par. The leader the first day was David Baixauli, 11 year junior from Valencia, Spain with 47, closely followed by Juan Pedro Monjo Bossi, Madrid, Spain also 47. On the third was Jacopo Albertoni 12 year (if I am correct) from Rome. It’s amazing to see two juniors on the top of the leader board, before many international top players. Day two was more difficult for the juniors and both scored one over. Juan Pedro took the grip of the game from the beginning and scored 48. Hugo Espirito Santo from Portugal made 47 and par the first day. Carlos Gonzales from Madrid, Spain was one under day one and on Sunday seven under.
