DEDICATION REVEREND BROTHER CHARLES OPFERMAN, S.M. Since 1955, much progress has been made toward the completion of the Building Program begun in 1950. The Man largely responsible for this progress is Bro. Charles Opferman, Principal of Chaminade for the last six years. Bro. Charles began his contribution to the program with the construction of the faculty residence in 1956. This was followed by the completion of the present Junior Building in 1958. Then, in the Fall of 1960, the new Administration Building was dedicated. Without the devoted efforts of Bro. Charles, this progress would not have been possible. Therefore the Class of 1961 gratefully dedicates its Annual to Bro. Charles Opferman, S.M.

Eagles pray before Fairmont victory.

Averaging 28 pts. a game to the opponents 13.6, capturing the Eastern division crown, and setting a new city scoring record by trouncing Stivers 88-0, the 1960 Eagle gridders completed the season with an impressive 7-3 record. The Fairmont and Springfield games were the highlights of the season. With spirited Eagle rooters fiIling the stands, Chaminade ended Fairmont's 24 game winning streak. At Springfield South the Eagles upset the second-ranked Springfield Wildcats. These great victories were acknowledged at the annual footbaIl banquet held on December 13, 1960. Six seniors were speciaIly honored. Mike Wolf was voted by his teammates as the most valuable player. Senior back Bob Kosins received the "Big Eagle" award. Others honored were: Jeff Franz, honorary team captain; Andy Augulis, top offensive lineman; Jim "BuIlmoose" Mechenbier, best offensive back; and Tom Hogan, best defensive player.

Your diploma doesn't look heavy! It's only a bit of paper with a few drops of ink. It doesn't weigh much. Nevertheless your diploma IS heavy ... heavy with possibilities ... heavy with high hopes of friends, neighbors, teachers and, above all, your families. As the bearer of a diploma, you are suddenly thrust into an arena of greater responsibilities and larger opportunities. Your friends and neighbors expect you to be a good citizen, informed about the world, yet always loyal to America. Your teachers and parents want you to continue your academic progress so you will grow in wisdom and understanding. Yes, a diploma is heavy. May you always look upon your diploma as a challenge and a constant reminder of your obligation to live up to the ideals taught you at Chaminade High School.
