Karen Hoshizaki Senior Project Architect

As Principal Architect, Laura oversees the architecture, planning and graphic design projects of the firm. With 30 years of experience specific to the design and of commercial buildings, sites, and tenant spaces, she effectively leads our team to develop memorable places to shop, dine, work, play, and relax.

With more than two decades of experience as an architect, Karen provides project management for the firm’s architectural and planning projects. She is adept at working with clients and managing our team to meet client’s goals for projects that are exceptional and on brand. She is also skilled at partnering with clients, jurisdictional agency staff, subconsultants and contractors, to deliver the level of durability and detailing, tight budgets, and expedited timelines required for the commercial environment.

She is committed to bringing innovative design solutions in placemaking, environmental sustainability, technology and stakeholder involvement to improve the long term value of projects for our clients. Her design and technical skills have assisted clients with creative and cost efficient design solutions that meet life safety, accessibility and energy conservation code requirements.

Relevant projects she has managed include Einstein Bagel Bros, Elegant Desserts Kiosk, Stellar Partners News stores, Sky Free Shop, CNBC stores, UETA Duty Free and also multiple projects at the Otay Ranch Town Center.

Michele McKinney Senior Account Manager, Communication

With 25 years of experience, Ms. Smith leads the firm’s stakeholder engagement and strategic communications for innovative projects in land use, transportation, water and energy. She has led public involvement and marketing efforts for private sector, non-profit and governmental clients.

Michele is passionate about improving communities. She is a dynamic, awardwinning public affairs professional with a track record of helping stakeholders, customers and community members engage in land use and transportation improvements. Because of her past experience in journalism and her leadership in professional associations she knows how to create communications that thoroughly engage stakeholders in what they need to know about projects and how to get involved in a positive way.

Cathy is recognized nationally for her leadership in public participation. She is on the Board of the International Association of Public Participation, USA and serves as the Chair of its Communication Committee. She is also one of only seven Certified Public Participation Professionals in the country.

Project Purpose To design a new office space that unites two departments. The space was programmed to increase social and work interactions by adding a new central area with a large break room, and added conference room spaces. Creative solutions to reuse existing elements and other strategies, resulted in major cost savings and a timely build-out.
