Celebrates the Season With Annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest Tis the Season to decorate and showcase your holiday spirit South El Monte! The City of South El Monte is encouraging residents to bring out their holiday lights and decorations and participate in its annual Holiday Home Decorating Contest. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our residents missed out on many special events and the decorating contest is a safe and festive way to spread holiday cheer throughout our community. The contest is free and open to all South El Monte residents. THERE ARE FOUR CATEGORIES: • BEST OVERALL • MOST HOLIDAY SPIRITED

• BEST USE OF LIGHTS

•MOST ANIMATED

To participate in the contest, please submit your name, address, and phone number via email at nrodriguez@soelmonte.org or by calling the South El Monte Community Center at (626) 579-2043 by Friday, December 11th. City officials will be out in the community on December 15th after 6 p.m. judging the exterior of homes, so be sure to have your lights on display. Due to COVID-19, judging will be done from a vehicle. Winners will be announced on our social media platforms and receive a plaque and bragging rights. NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR CITY COMMISSIONS Get involved and join one of our Commissions below: • COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION – SEVEN (7) POSITIONS (2 of the members must be at least 60 years of age and 1 member between the ages of 16 and 21) The Community Services Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in matters pertaining to social programming, health and welfare, child development, public recreational facilities and leisure activities. • PATRIOTIC COMMISSION - FIVE (5) POSITIONS The Patriotic Commission acts in an advisory capacity to the City Council in all matters pertaining to patriotism and the civic recognition of both active and veteran military personnel. • PLANNING COMMISSION – FIVE (5) POSITIONS The Planning Commission is responsible, with the assistance of staff, for the development of the goals and objectives for the Planning and Community Development Department, to be approved by the City Council. In order to qualify for consideration, you must be a South El Monte resident. Once considered you must complete a Live Scan background check. City of South El Monte employees are not eligible to serve as a member of a commission. Applications may be obtained Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at City Hall’s Reception Desk, 1415 Santa Anita Avenue, South El Monte by appointment only or on the City’s website at www.cityofsouthelmonte.org.
