SOUTH EL MONTE CITY COUNCIL APPROVES 2022-2023 FISCAL YEAR BUDGET On June 28, 2022, the City Council adopted the City’s balanced Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023. The approval is a result of months of collaboration by the City Council and staff to ensure the budget is fiscally responsible and continues to provide funding for ongoing services and programs that our community needs. The Adopted FY 2022-2023 General Fund Budget totals 24.1 million in revenue and $19.2 million in expenses for a surplus of $4.8 million. Through strategic planning, careful spending, cost cutting measures, and pursuing other funding resources, the City has been able to weather the negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and have reserves for unforeseen expenditures, emergencies and General Fund revenue shortfalls. Helping the City’s healthy budget includes funding from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) State and Local Fiscal Recover Funds (SLFRF). Additionally, the voter approved passage of South El Monte Essential Services Protection Measure ES, has ensured the quarter-of-a-penny sales tax be preserved and utilized in South El Monte. The City Council and staff are committed to the community’s wellbeing in a fiscally responsible, transparent and accountable manner. As part of the Adopted Budget, the following Capital Improvement Projects have been approved for the new Fiscal Year: • Traffic signal enhancements at the intersections of Santa Anita Ave. and Klingerman St., Santa Anita Ave. and Rush St.; and Santa Anita Ave. and Central Ave.

CITY HALL AND ALL OTHER CITY FACILITIES WILL BE CLOSED ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 2022 IN OBSERVANCE OF LABOR DAY HOLIDAY.

• Repaving of various residential streets including south of Central Ave., west of Santa Anita Ave., north of the 60 HWY, west of Peck Rd. This endeavor also includes select segments of Chico Ave., Klingerman St., Rush St., Potrero Ave., and Floradale Ave. • The completion of the design of the Santa Anita Ave./Tyler Ave. Corridor improvements from the 60 freeway to the northern city limits. The project elements include bike lanes, street improvements, landscaping, street furniture, parking and bus transit stops. • Installation and monitoring devices for autonomous building controls for energy-efficient upgrades at the Senior Center, Community Center, and Mini Center facilities.

• Construction of the streetscape improvements for the Merced Avenue Greenway project. The endeavor includes cool pavement, permeable pavers, bike lanes, landscaping, and stormwater quality infrastructure.
