Calling All Teens While teens are welcome at all of the city’s recreation centers, they have a place to call their own at Lively Pointe Youth Center. Opened in June 2008, Lively Pointe offers a variety of opportunities and recreational outlets for students enrolled in middle and high school, ages 12 to 18 years old. Teens can participate in sports leagues, join an outdoor fitness class, play the latest video games, go online in the computer lab, watch television or just hang out with friends after school. The facility includes a weight/fitness room on-site, with a mix of cardio and weight machines, as well as a game room with three billiards tables, and foosball and table tennis tables.

Irving Youth Action Council

Who We Are: The Irving Youth ACTION Council (IYAC) is a group of teens that works with the Youth Council and the Parks and Recreation staff to develop teen-specific programs, activities and events. The group also is actively involved in a variety of community service projects and leadership development initiatives. IYAC meets at 6 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Teens interested in becoming a member of the IYAC are encouraged to complete an application form online at CityofIrving.org/1173. New members are chosen throughout the year. Mission: To develop an alliance among the youth, youth-serving agencies, city government, schools and the community. To secure for all children and youth the highest advantage in physical, mental, social and moral development. To advise on how to solve the problems encountered in providing services to the youth of the community. Objectives: Enrich the lives of the youth and children of the community by meeting their needs. Advise the City Council, city administration and the residents of Irving on programs to help eliminate violence and provide a safe environment for the community’s youth and children. Serve as a central clearinghouse for all the programs offered to youth and children by various organizations and agencies in Irving.

Spirited Youth Awards

Do you know any outstanding youth or teen that make a difference in school or the community? Nominate them for the Irving Spirited Youth Award, which recognizes Irving youth for excellence in community service and character. The Irving Spirited Youth Award has been a part of the Irving’s Youth Services program since 2002. Anyone can nominate a deserving student for the award at any time during the year. Nominations are accepted throughout the year and winners are chosen quarterly by the Irving Youth Council. Individual awards are presented to each recipient by the mayor prior to a City Council meeting. The four quarterly winners are then invited to attend the Irving’s annual teen talent competition, Irving’s Got Talent, where the “Spirited Youth of the Year” is announced. Nominees must be residents of Irving or be enrolled in grades 6-12 in any school within Irving city limits. For more information or to download the nomination form, visit CityofIrving.org/2188/Spirited-Youth-Awards.
