Random Acts of Fitness

Lawn of the Week Get your mower and green thumb ready - this summer our “Lawn of the Week” program is back! City staff will be identifying outstanding yards of Inver Grove Heights residents whose lawn exemplify creativity, neatness and beauty. As staff find a “winner”, a sign will be placed in their front yard for one week to proclaim their lawn as the “Inver Grove Heights Lawn of the Week”. Recipients will receive a certificate of achievement and a prize. The City will consider “nominations” and make the final decision on the Lawn of the Week awards. If you have a lawn you would like to suggest, please send an email to Jen Graham at jgraham@invergroveheights.org

Farmers’ Market Sundays, June 17-October 7 8 a.m.-1 p.m.

Night To Unite Tuesday, August 7

Let us help your neighborhood celebrate! Parks and Recreation staff will come to your party and pass out some freebies while visiting with you and your neighbors.

Special Events

We’re coming to a neighborhood near you! Watch out for our super-summer special agents as we “bust” families, friends and neighbors of all ages for their efforts to get outside and be active and healthy. We’ll reward those showing a healthy lifestyle... playing catch, riding bike, walking the dog, mowing the lawn...with a gift bag of swag and our G.O. (Get Outdoors) t-shirts. We’ll be looking for our “cardio criminals” from May-October and will be posting your Random Acts of Fitness on the City website and our Facebook page.

To apply for a visit, go to www.invergroveheights.org/nighttounite When you register your party you will have the opportunity to also request police and/or fire visits to your gathering. Pre-registration is required by Tuesday, July 31.

Swimming Lessons

Program Policies Classes with less than the required minimum enrollment may be canceled one week prior to start date. • Make-up classes will not be available for students who miss a class and fees will not be pro-rated or refunded. • Children who are not toilet trained must wear a cloth diaper with plastic pant, swimsuit diaper, or disposable diaper. (Disposable diapers are available for sale at guest services) • Pool temperature in the lap pool is 81 degrees (AugustFebruary) and 84 degrees (March-July).

Wait Lists If you are interested in registering for a class that has reached maximum enrollment, you may place your name on a waiting list. An additional class may be added in order to accommodate the waiting list. You will be contacted if we can accommodate.

Registration Deadline We accept swimming lesson registrations up until the deadline or when class size reaches the maximum. The deadline to register is seven days before the course begins. Classes that do not have the minimum number of participants registered a week before the start of the session may be canceled.

Enrolling in the Appropriate Class Choosing the appropriate swimming class for your child depends upon skill mastery and instructor recommendation. Class levels build on skills learned in previous sessions, so it is common for students to repeat a level several times before mastering all required skills before moving on. Check your child’s completion certificate at the end of the session which indicates the next class level or consult with your child’s instructor before enrolling for the next session. If your child is at least five years old and this is your child’s first time taking lessons or the first time your child is in our program, we recommend attending a free swimming level assessment.

14

Swimming Level Assessment Come to the pool and have your child assessed for the appropriate American Red Cross swimming lesson. No registration is necessary. Please allow about 10 minutes for the assessment. Saturday, May 12 12-1 p.m.

Youth Fall Soccer Leagues The youth soccer league offers soccer players the opportunity to learn the game in a fun, positive environment. We operate under the philosophy that each participant will have the opportunity to participate in each game and develop their skills. Playing smallsided soccer games helps us achieve that. With fewer players on the field and smaller field sizes, players get more touches on the ball, enjoy a faster-paced game and develop skills quickly. Sign up now to be a part of a team! Register by Monday, July 16

Volunteer Coaches Needed! We provide hands-on training, instructional material, and pre-made lesson plans for those in need. Nervous to do it alone? Try cocoaching with a friend! Due to the need for volunteers, we reserve the right to withdraw any team without a coach.

Important things to know: • Coaches will notify participants between Aug. 9-12 regarding the first practice. • Games begin the week of Aug. 27 and play through mid-Oct. based on the number of teams. • Teams are determined by the school the player attends and how early the registration is received. • Requests are for carpool purposes only. Only one player or coach request per person and the requests must match. Group and/or chain requests are not honored. • Shin guards are required for all age groups. • *Co-ed Pee Wee League starts Wednesday, Aug. 15. Participants should expect to hear from a coach by Monday, Aug. 13. All practices and games will be at North Valley Park.

FootGolf Program!

Family Golf

FootGolf is a new way to enjoy time on a golf course by playing a new, exciting sport that combines the popular sports of golf and soccer. The sport is played much like a traditional golf game with the player kicking a ball from the starting tee area to the hole, which is a 21 inch diameter hole marked with a flag. The goal is to complete the course using the fewest kicks. Players select a starting tee area based on skill level. The holes played vary in both length and difficulty based on the teeing area chosen by players. Players may elect to play a 9 or 18 hole round.

The Executive Course will be set up each weekend with a special set of family tee markers and easy pin placements in order to provide the perfect setting for your family to enjoy the game of golf together. A family scorecard is available at the Golf Shop or at the Starter. When: Friday, Saturday and Sunday all day Fee: Children ages 7-18 play free with each paid adult Executive Course green fee.

When: Mon.-Thurs. 12-5 p.m. Fri.-Sun. 12 p.m.-close Cost: Adult: $12 Youth: $10 Ball Rental: $3

Summer 2018

Adopt-a-Park Program Summer is quickly approaching and it’s a great time to get involved in your community. Our Adopt-a-Park program offers an opportunity to make a real difference. Volunteers are asked to pick up litter and report problems at their park from April-October. The following parks need to be adopted: Salem Hills, Groveland, Skyview, Arbor Pointe, Broadmoor, Southern Lakes and Ernster. If you or your group can volunteer to help keep our parks and trails clean and beautiful, or if you would like more information on the program, call Tracy Petersen at 651-450-2588 or email tpetersen@invergroveheights.org
