Crossroads

A Note from the Mayor:

Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future

As we begin this new year, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey that brought us to where we are today, and the exciting road ahead.

Haltom City’s story begins in the spring of 1840, when Captain Jonathan Bird and Texas Rangers established Bird’s Fort along the Trinity River. By 1850, the newly established Birdville had become Tarrant County’s first seat of government, a distinction that speaks to the pioneering spirit that has always defined this place we call home.

From those humble beginnings, we’ve grown into a thriving city of nearly 46,000 residents. But our growth isn’t just in numbers. Over the past 25 years, we’ve become one of the most diverse communities in the Metroplex, with vibrant communities enriching our city through new businesses, cultural experiences, and perspectives.

Today, We Stand at an Exciting Crossroads.

With transformative developments like H Mart Plaza on the horizon, we’re writing the next chapter of our success story. The city that once served as Tarrant County’s seat of government is now positioned to

FOUR DECADES OF HEART FOUR DECADES OF HEART

For 40 years, the Haltom Stampede 5K and Fun Run has brought the community together each spring, with hundreds of neighbors lacing up their running shoes for one of Tarrant County’s most beloved racing traditions. This year’s milestone celeration, on Valentines Day, Saturday, February 14, promises to be the biggest yet as the race marks four decades of community fitness, and giving back.

I’m proud to serve as your mayor during this pivotal time. Together, we’re building a city where history meets opportunity and every resident can thrive.

An Troung Sincerly, become one of the area’s most vibrant communities.

The Haltom City Stampede 5K Celebrates 40 Years

The race kicks off at 9 a.m., but the real winners are the students of Haltom City. Every entry fee, every sponsor dollar, and every community contribution goes directly to the Parks & Recreation Donation Fund, supporting vital programs that make a difference in young lives year-round. The Stampede has become more than a race, it’s a lifeline for local students pursuing their dreams.

The race has deep roots in Haltom City. What began as a modest community gathering in 1986 has grown into a beloved annual tradition that draws runners and walkers of all ages and abilities. This year, the timing on Valentine’s Day adds an extra layer of meaning, celebrating love for community and dedication to local youth. Whether you’re chasing a personal record or pushing a stroller, the Stampede welcomes everyone with the same warm Texas hospitality that has defined the event for decades.

This year’s 40th anniversary celebration brings extra energy to the course with live entertainment from a DJ, food trucks serving up post-race fuel, and special commemorative activities. But the most soughtafter prize remains the handmade ceramic buffalo awards, presented to winners across 16 age groups. These unique trophies have become collectors’ items in their own right, displayed proudly in homes throughout North Texas.

As regisration opens for the 40th annual event, organizers encourage early sign-up to secure your spot.

Public Works

Flood Insurance

Haltom City is a participant in the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), which means property owners and residents are eligible to purchase flood insurance to protect all or portions of their

property. Please note that standard homeowners’ insurance policies do NOT cover flood damage.

For more information about flood insurance, contact the Public Works Department at 817-834-9036, email pwengineering@haltomcitytx.com, or reach out to your insurance agent.

Stormwater Quality Matters

Stormwater runoff is water that flows across the ground after rainfall, snow, and ice melt. As it moves, it can collect dirt, litter, chemicals, and other pollutants, carrying them into our streams, creeks, and reservoirs. In urban areas, stormwater runoff is one of the leading causes of pollution in local watersheds. Protecting stormwater quality helps safeguard our environment and drinking water.

You can help prevent pollution by following these simple steps:

Always pick up after pets

Avoid fertilizing the lawn before a rain event

Choose organic or eco-friendly lawn care methods

Don’t blow grass clippings or leaves into the street, mulch them back into the lawn instead

Wash vehicles on the grass, using minimal soap, or use a commercial car wash

Recycle household hazardous waste, like paint, oil, antifreeze, and batteires at the environmental collection center (6400 Bridge St., Fort Worth)

Report littering or illegal dumping to City Hall

Learn how Haltom City works to reduce stormwater pollution at www.haltomcitytx.com/stormwater.

Capital Improvement Projects Designed to Serve Today and Plan for tomorrow

What is a Capital Improvement Project?

This includes things like constructing or rehabilitating streets, building or major renovations to municpal facilities, like libraries, fire stations, and police stations. replacing aging water and sewer lines, protecting against flooding or improving parks.

While each project is unique, they typically have a few things in common: they take several years from start to finish, they’re funded over a long period of time, and they require multiple work phases, including planning, design, and constrution.

Recently Completed Projects

Residents and visitors to Ray Drive and Ray Court can now enjoy freshly reconstructed streets with enhanced safety and drainage. These newly reconstructed streets showcase the city’s commitment to maintaining quality infrastructure throughout the community.
