Recreation Programs

From the Director

your springboard into the new year!

Winter is still here, but Spring is just waiting around the corner. This 2012 Spring Program Guide offers you great indoor and outdoor activities planned by your Parks & Recreation Department for March, April and May. The MAC (Multi-Activity Center) in Mitch Park will host over 100 classes for ages 2 through adult that include arts & crafts; sewing; photography; youth camps and even archery. April hosts our first special event, Scavenger Hunt in the Parks, and the opening of the Edmond Farmer’s Market. The Edmond Senior Center, also located at the MAC, offers activities year–round that will enhance the quality of life for those 55 years and older. The Senior Center also has a meal program where seniors can enjoy a hot meal and conversation for a small donation. Those interesting in more information about the Senior Center can call 216-7600. KickingBird Golf Club and KickingBird Tennis Center, located at the corner of Danforth and Bryant, offer professional lessons, recreational play and tournaments. We have also partnered with several organizations that offer a wide variety of youth and adult sports programs to keep you active and involved. Pelican Bay Aquatic Center begins operation in March with the sale of season passes to Edmond Utility Customers, followed by swim lesson registration and reservations of the cabana and entire pool area in April. Be sure to join us on opening day, May 26th, for the unofficial start of summer. Arcadia Lake is the beautiful setting for many outdoor recreation activities including boating, swimming, kayaking and camping. Arcadia Lake, along with our other 19 city parks, offer trails and picnic areas, many with pavilion rentals and playgrounds. Details of these facilities and programs can be found on edmondok.com/parks, City of Edmond’s new and improved website. Once you are there, I encourage you to click on the individual parks name to get the information that each park offers including trail maps and other park amenities. So springboard into the new year with us to enjoy all that Edmond Parks & Recreation has to offer you and your family. Sincerley,

Earl London Interim Director of Parks and Recreation

Park & Recreation Policies

your springboard into the new year!

Refund & Cancellation Policy •

A refund will only be issued if a class is cancelled by the department or the student withdraws at least 3 days prior to the start date of the class, less a $5 processing fee per class on all Programs of $10 or more.

Students who withdraw from a class less than 72 hours prior to the start date of the class will receive a recreation Program credit which may be applied to future recreation Programs, less a $5 processing fee per class. In general, no refunds or credits will be issued from the start date of a class.

Students who are dissatisfied with a Program for any reason must complete a Program survey in order for improvement of Programs to be made.

Credits and refunds will be evaluated on a case by case basis by the Recreation Program Coordinator.

Credits expire one year from the date issued.

The above policy applies only to our fee–based recreation Programs and not to: KickingBird Tennis, Pelican Bay Aquatic Center, KickingBird Golf Club, Farmer’s Market, MAC or pavilion rentals, special events, or Arcadia Lake. Program Tardiness Policy

Programs will start promptly; we do not wait for late arrivals. If an instructor shows up for their class and no students are present, they are only required to wait 20 minutes before leaving. No refunds or credits issued once the class has started.

Instructors Wanted! If you have knowledge and talent to share with others and are comfortable teaching, we can provide you with an opportunity. It only takes one day/evening a month, minimum, depending on the class!

Last Minute Cancellation Policy

Our instructors are dedicated to fulfilling each class they teach. However, they are also human and have emergencies that arise in their day–to–day lives. Should a last minute cancellation arise, we have developed the following policies. Once Edmond Parks & Recreation receives notification from an instructor they will not be able to make a class, all registered participants will be contacted via the contact information listed on the participant’s account. For all one–time classes

QUESTIONS Call the Parks and Recreation office at 359–4360 or email melissa.meyers@edmondok.com.

The instructor will be required to schedule a make–up class on a day and time similar to the regularly scheduled time. If that is not possible, we will work with both the instructor and registered participants to come up with a “majority rules” day and time. For all series and repetitive classes

Follow us on

Due to availability constraints, many times it is not feasible to have a make–up class. Should an instructor have a last minute cancellation, all participants will receive a gift certificate/credit voucher for the value of the day the class is cancelled. Example: If a class for $60 meets twice a week for four weeks, totaling eight classes, each registered participant will receive a gift certificate/ credit voucher for $7.50 to be used on a future Edmond Parks and Recreation class.
