Beginner Hiking Program: Buntzen Ridge (12 yrs +)  This four-week progressive program will help you gain the confidence and stamina to hike to Buntzen Ridge from Sasamat Lake (roundtrip 10km, elevation gain 500m). Start with an evening information session and short walk. Progress with beginner and intermediate hikes in Belcarra Regional Park and on Eagle Ridge before the final hike. Time taken to enjoy the surrounding nature. W

Intermediate Hike: Belcarra & Admiralty Point (12 yrs +)

This four-week progressive program will help you gain the confidence and stamina to hike to Munro and Dennett Lakes in Pinecone Burke Provincial park (roundtrip 12km, elevation gain 900 m). Progress with hikes through Burke Mountain (Woodland walk, Coquitlam lake view and Hourglass lake trails) before your final hike. Time taken to enjoy surrounding nature. Su

Trail Running: Night Owls (18 yrs +) Evening runs will explore some of the easier trails around the Tri-Cities in the dark, running by the light of head-lamps. Prerequisite: Comfortably run 5km continuously, equipped with the necessary equipment (good trail running shoes, a good headlamp, hydration, reflectors and warm/waterproof clothing). Runs are 90 minutes (with breaks) Email outdoors@coquitlam.ca to comfirm interest or visit coquitlam.ca/outdoors to check back about future dates and times.

This low level intermediate hike will take in a forested trail along Burrard Inlet and climb steeply to a wonderful viewpoint looking to the west (roundtrip 8km; elevation gain 300m). Sa

Intermediate Hike: Ridge Park (12 yrs +)  This evening hike will take in the power line right-of-way on Westwood Plateau to gain elevation into the wonderful forest of Ridge Park. There will be a chance for great views overlooking Coquitlam and beyond. Roundtrip distance is 6km with an elevation gain of 245m. W

Intermediate Hiking Program: Diez Vistas (12 yrs +)  This four week progressive program will help you gain the confidence and stamina to hike Diez Vistas at Buntzen Lake. Spanish for ‘ten views’ this hike offers spectacular views of Vancouver’s waterways and mountains (roundtrip distance is 15km, elevation gain 900 m). It is a steep hike and can be more demanding than most trail guides suggest. Program will start with an evening information session, followed by a short hike. Progress with hikes in Belcarra Regional Park and on Eagle Ridge before the final hike. Time taken to enjoy surrounding nature. Th

FAMILY Programs marked with a

Family Cycling Streetwise Workshop (8 – 14 yrs) Learn safety skills and build confidence to ride on the road as a family. This program is for children 8 – 14 yrs and their caregiver. Both child and adult should know how to ride comfortably (balance, pedal, steer). All participants must register and bring their own bike, helmet and closed-toe shoes. Includes theory, on-bike skills practice and a neighbourhood road ride. Adults (18 yrs +) pay registration fee of $10; children participate for free. At least one adult must register and participate.
