SPRING/SUMMER 2019 MAY – AUGUST

Welcome to Coquitlam

Parks, Recreation & Culture Services

We’ve all been looking forward to some warmer and drier weather—along with the good times that come with it. Here’s a peek at what’s in store in Coquitlam in the coming months.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THESE EVENTS It wouldn’t be summer in Coquitlam without the opportunity to enjoy one— or all—of our wonderful special events and festivals. The fun starts July 1 at Town Centre Park with Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day, named one of the top 20 festivals in Metro Vancouver by Business in Vancouver. Our live Friday night Summer Concert Series is also back at Town Centre Park for year three, running July 12, Aug. 2 and Sept. 6 in the beautiful TD Community Plaza. Don’t miss the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival on Aug. 10, a magical day showcasing talented musicians, artists, dancers, storytellers, artisans and more at Town Centre Park. You can also get to know your neighbours better this summer with the Neighbourhood Nights series, which brings free family activities to parks and schoolgrounds across the City. Check out coquitlam.ca/events for information about these and other events.

NEW ACTION PLAN FOR SENIORS’ PROGRAMMING In February, we adopted a new Parks, Recreation & Culture Seniors Services Action Plan to guide 50+ programming in our city over the next decade. What does that mean for our growing population of 50+ residents? Essentially, the aim is to provide services and programs that encourage life-long physical activity and that reflect the interests and changing needs of those age 50 and up. Among other things, we’ll be looking at types of activities, fees, times, locations, access, volunteer opportunities and marketing in the months and years ahead, in consultation with users. Full details, including this year’s action items, are available at coquitlam.ca/seniorsstrategy

STAY COOL THIS SUMMER Beat the heat at one of our many outdoor pools, spray parks and wading pools, open from late June to early September. Find one near you at coquitlam.ca/outdoorpools.

Check out the guide for more ideas about how to spend your spring and summer!

OUR SERVICES Coquitlam has programs, events and activities for residents of all ages and abilities. Take your dog for a run in an off-leash park, catch a tournament at Town Centre Park or enjoy the fresh air on a hike through one of our many trails. Whether you’re into yoga, swimming, arts or hiking, there is always something new to learn or a new friend to meet through Coquitlam recreation. Now is the time to try it, learn it, live it!
