Message from the Director As the days grow longer and the sun warms the air, our thoughts turn to beautiful summer days filled with all types of exciting opportunities for our residents and others to enjoy throughout the city. As you look through this Summer Activity Guide, I’m sure you will find a good variety of programs, activities and facilities which will help you meet your leisure time needs. There are many organized activities and programs for you such as soccer, golf, and basketball, and don’t overlook our Camp HERO, Neal Summer Program and Summer Parks Program. For adults we have water fitness classes and golf programs that you need to check out, in addition to adult sport programs. If you prefer to do it on your own, then please take advantage of golfing at the Travis B. Bryan Municipal Golf Course, swimming at one of our aquatics facilities, or reserving a pavilion in one of our parks for a private outing or celebration. The month of July is National Parks and Recreation Month, so please check back regularly to see what fun and exciting activities we have planned for the month of July that will help us celebrate our Parks and Programs as well as “The Good Life. The purpose of our swim team is to foster competitive youth swimming and provide instruction in competitive swimming skills in a supportive atmosphere with good sportsmanship that is conducive to proper social and physical development of our youth. We want each child to develop his/her physical and mental stamina while setting their own personal goals and finding out what it takes to reach those goals. Basically we want to exercise and have fun with our friends. Let’s try to keep the pressure down and let our young swimmers progress individually as they develop a team spirit that will carry them down the road. We don’t want to burn them out early. We have awesome potential to be a really strong team as our large number of young swimmers move into the older categories.
