Lifeguard Junior Lifeguard Club

Ages 8 to 12 yrs

Junior Lifeguard Club offers serious fun for kids eight years and up who can swim at least 25 meters and tread water for two minutes. The Junior Lifeguard Club provides an action-packed challenge for kids who love the water but who want more than ‘lessons’. The Junior Lifeguard Club keeps kids interested and active in aquatics – especially quick learners and those caught between levels. It is perfect for youth who thrive in an energetic learning environment. The Club stresses fun and aquatic skill development based on personal-best achievement. Members work to develop and improve swimming and other aquatic skills with emphasis on: swimming skills, lifesaving skills, lifesaving knowledge, leadership & teamwork, community education, competition and personal fitness. Prerequisite: ability to swim 25m continuously, tread water for two minutes non-stop and be comfortable in deep water. Mar 09 – Apr 27

Provides enriched training for those who are ready to go beyond regular swimming lessons. Swim Patrol’s three levels – Rookie, Ranger and Star – continue to develop participants’ swim strokes and provide the skill foundation that prepares them for success in the Society’s Bronze medal awards. Rookie Patrol: Swimmers continue stroke development with 50m swims of front crawl, back crawl and breaststroke. Lifesaving Sport skills include a 25m obstacle swim and 15m object carry. First aid focuses on assessment of conscious victims, contacting EMS and treatment for bleeding. Fitness improves in 350m workouts and 100m timed swims. Ranger Patrol: Swimmers develop better strokes over 75m of each stroke. They tackle lifesaving sport skills in a lifesaving medley, timed object support and rescue with a buoyant aid. First aid focuses on assessment of unconscious victims, treatment of victims in shock and obstructed airway procedures. Skill drills develop a strong lifesaving foundation. Star Patrol: Swimmers are challenged with 600m workouts, 300m timed swims and a 25m object carry. Strokes are refined over 100m swims. First aid focuses on treatment of bone or joint injuries and respiratory emergencies including asthma and allergic reactions. Lifesaving skills include defense methods, victim removals and rolling over and supporting a victim face up in the water. Prerequisite: 8 years of age or older and Red Cross Swim 7 or higher. Excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion. Participants develop problem solving and decision making skills individually and in partners. Candidates learn CPR and develop the lifesaving skills needed to be their own lifeguard. Includes a timed 400m swim. Prerequisite: eight years of age or older and Red Cross Swim Kids 8 or higher.
