By Megan Haggan IT’S that time of year again, and parents across the ACT are breathing a sigh of relief as the little ones get back to school! Safety’s an important consideration, whether we’re looking at the right size backpack, making sure lunch stays safe to eat or keeping out of the sun. A sun-care study by Stubbies has shown that kids go to school less prepared for UV protection than they are at the beach: Only 34 per cent of parents reported applying sunscreen to kids for school, compared to 95 per cent at the beach. However, they are consistently good with hats, with 89 per cent sending their kids to school with them (compared to 92 per cent at the beach). Various studies over the last 10 years have indicated that incorrectly fitting school bags are tough on kids’ growing bodies, so these need to be fitted correctly, according to Kathmandu.
