Words of Comfort and Assurance of Pardon May the God of love and power forgive you and free you from your sins, heal and strengthen you by his Spirit, and raise you to new life in Christ our Lord.

Call to Worship 1 You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. 2 I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. 3 Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. 4 I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. 5 I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you. 6 On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. 7 Because you are my help, I sing in the shadow of your wings. 8 I cling to you; your right hand upholds me. — Psalm 63:1-8

Worship in Song (Our pracitce is to sing standing. If it is more worshipful or comfortable for you to sit please feel free to be seated at any time.)

As We Gather / The Stead Fast Love Coomes, Fay, MacNeill As we gather may Your Spirit work within us. As we gather may we glorify Your Name. Knowing well that as our hearts begin to worship, We’ll be blessed because we came. We’ll be blessed because we came. Chorus: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new ev’ry morning, new ev’ry morning, Great is thy faithfulness, oh Lord. Great is thy faithfulness.

Confession of Sin (In Unison) Good Shepherd You are the One who loves and leads us. Still we ignore the presence of your Spirit and neglect the hope to which you have called us. We nurse a life that drives us from you and one another. Forgive us, Lord, for the weakness and unbelief by which we seek our lives at the cost of others’, and remind us that because of Jesus your presence with us means life from the dead.

Two

You have called us by Your Spirit into worship. In this temple You have set our hearts aflame. As we lay our hearts upon Your holy alter, We’ll be blessed in Jesus’ Name. We’ll be blessed in Jesus’ Name. (Chorus) The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end. They are new ev’ry morning, new ev’ry morning, Great is thy faithfulness, oh Lord. Great is thy faithfulness. (Chorus)

Holy, Holy, Holy Heber, Dykes Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity! Holy, holy, holy! All the saints adore Thee, Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubim and seraphim falling down before Thee, Who wert, and art, and evermore shalt be. Holy, holy, holy! Tho’ the darkness hide Thee, Tho’ the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see, Only Thou art holy there is none beside Thee, Perfect in pow’r in love, and purity. Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty! All thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea. Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!

Bind Us Together Gillman Bind us together, Lord, bind us together With cords that cannot be broken. Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together, Lord, Bind us together with Love. There is only one God, There is only one King; There is only one body, That is why we can sing.

Praying Together A member of the congregation leads us in prayer.

God of grace, amazing wonder, Irresistible and free. O, the miracle of mercy, Jesus reaches down to me. God of grace, I stand in wonder As my God restores my soul. His own blood has paid my ransom, Awesome cost to make me whole.

Series: Spiritual Fruitfulness Message: Love 13 You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. 14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. 16 So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. 17 For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. — Galatians 5:13-26

For Further Reflection: The point of the Spirit is to enable those who follow Jesus to take into all the world the news that he is Lord, that he has won the victory over the forces of evil, that a new world has opened up, and that we are to help make it happen. — N.T. Wright

Communion See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! — 1 John 3:1

Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is the family meal of Christians. We invite all followers of Jesus Christ to participate. If you are not a follower of Jesus or are not prepared to share in the meal, we encourage you to spend this time in prayer. We hope this time is helpful to you as you consider your relationship with Jesus Christ and with his people, the church. Guidance for communion: We practice communion by coming forward and receiving the elements. Whenever you are ready you may come forward receive a piece of bread from the loaf and dip into the white chalice which is wine or the green chalice which is grape juice. If for any reason you are not able to come forward our servers will come back to you. Simply raise your hand and they will be glad to serve you. Members of our mercy team available to pray with you or for you during this time. They are towards the front on the left hand side of the sanctuary.

Prayer for Truth Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open to me the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing, and that leads to the life that you promise. Amen. Prayer of Belief Lord Jesus, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful that I ever before believed, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt, bearing my punishment on the cross, and offering forgiveness and new life. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sin and receive you as Savior and Lord. Amen. Prayer for those Struggling with Sin Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in you the fulfillment of all my needs, and my turn from every false satisfaction to feed on you, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely, and run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to you, the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen.

Benediction May the blessing of God, The giver of every good and perfect gift; And of Christ, who summons us to service; And of the Holy Spirit, who inspires generosity and love, Be with us all.

Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee; Let the water and the blood, From thy riven side which flowed, Be of sin the double cure, Cleanse me from its guilt and pow’r. Not the labors of my hands Can fulfill thy law’s demands; Could my zeal no respite know, Could my tears forever flow, All for sin could not atone; Thou must save, and Thou alone.

Doxology Bingham Ho‘onani i ka Makua Mau Ke Keiki me ka ‘Uhane no Ke Akua Mau Ho‘omaika‘i pu Ko keia ao, ko kela ao. ‘Amene.

Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to thy cross I cling; Naked, come to Thee for dress; Helpless, look to thee for grace; Foul, I to the Fountain fly; Wash me, Savior, or I die.

Praise to the Eternal Father The Son with the Spirit indeed God Eternal Bless together Of this day; of that day everyday. Amen

While I draw this fleeting breath, When mine eyelids close in death, When I soar to worlds unknown, See Thee on thy judgment throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, Let me hide myself in Thee.

Dismissal (In Unison) Let us go forth to serve the world as those who love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Postlude Worship Through Our Gifts Do good and share what you have, For such sacrifices are pleasing to God. — Hebrews 13:16

(The heart of the gospel is the overwhelming generosity of God to us in Christ. We are “blessed to be a blessing”. If you would like to contribute to the ministry of City Church of Honolulu gifts may be placed in the offering box located on the table at the back of the Sanctuary.) Six

Our Purpose:

Together, Living Out the Gospel in the Heart of the City.

Seven Core Values Gospel The gospel is the good news that in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection, God by grace rescues and draws men and women into fellowship with himself and with one another. Through the gospel all creation is restored so that we will enjoy this fellowship forever. Through the gospel God’s Kingdom has come and is coming. Therefore we are committed to a life together that is permeated with expectant, enduring, joyful hope.

Bible The Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are God’s inspired, authoritative revelation. All of the scriptures present Christ and the gospel to draw us to worship and make Him known. We are committed to being a learning community, diligently studying all of the scriptures and allowing God to transform all of life.

Worshipful In response to the good news of the gospel, we worship God as King and Jesus as Savior and Lord in all of our daily activity. This culminates in coming together on Sunday — gathered, renewed and sent out by the Holy Spirit.

Prayerful We regularly and expectantly engage in coversation with God, both personally and as a group. We are committed to complete dependence on God in prayer for all of our life and mission together.

Missional The Bible is about the mission of God – bringing love, peace and justice to a broken world through the work of Christ. Therefore “missions” is way more than a church department but rather what God and life is all about. We are committed to calling individuals to respond to the gospel in repentance, faith and conversion. We are committed to pointing individuals both locally and globally to Christ by acts of justice and mercy. We use all the gifts and talents given to the church and seek to partner with other like-minded congregations and ministries.

Multi-Ethnic/Inter-Generational The gospel is best expressed and demonstrated through a diverse community who believe, embrace and practice it together. We are committed to ethnic groups, families and generations worshipping and serving together.

Hospitable Hospitality is a response of love and gratitude for God’s love and welcome to us. As individuals and a church family we are committed to the gracious opening of our hearts, homes and lives to others, especially the needy and strangers.
