U.K. | Outlander Trail Scotland   |   SMALL GROUP Tour

Edinburgh • Inverness • Edinburgh

Join us on our Outlander themed tour, designed especially for the fans of all things Jamie & Clair. You will be following in the footsteps of these epic lovers, visiting locations used for the filming of the long-awaited Outlander Series as well as locations that would have inspired Diana Gabaldon in writing her fabulous book series.

4 days

Day 1 Edinburgh   This morning you'll leave Edinburgh with your guide – might it even be a red-haired Scot

Guaranteed Friday & Wednesday departures**

named Jamie? Today you’ll follow the trail of film locations featured in the Outlander TV Series. On your way north to Inverness, your first visit will be Culross, the fictional village of Cranesmuir and the home of Geillis Duncan and her ill-fated husband, Arthur. Exploring the town's charming cobbled streets is like going back in time. Look carefully and you may even find Claire’s herb garden behind the impressive historic Culross Palace. Continue to the small town of Falkland to revisit one of the first scenes of the show. Falkland substitutes for 1940's Inverness and in the town centre see if you can recognize the familiar sights such as the cosy looking Mrs. Baird’s Guesthouses (The Covenanter Hotel), the Bruce Fountain where Claire sees the ghost of Jamie. Early afternoon you'll stop at the Newtonmore Highland Folk Museum, which houses replicas of 18th-century turf-roofed Highland crofts, making it a perfect choice for the period scenes. You can see them in scenes filmed in and around the Mackenzie village, as well as the background of the scene where Claire, Jamie and his clansmen shelter in the first episode, and later when Dougal collects the rent. Heading ever further north, you will pass Aviemore. Will you be able to recognise the stunning hilly and wooded area of Tulloch Ghru near Aviemore, which appears during the journey Claire takes with Jamie and the Highlanders from Craigh na Dun to Castle Leoch? You may also recognise it from the opening credits. Arrive in Inverness, your base for two nights, later this afternoon.

Day 2 Inverness area   The first stop today will be at Culloden, a site that plays an important role in Scottish history and the Outlander books. It’s not far from the battlefield where the couple said their tearful goodbyes before Jamie joined the Jacobite army to fight for the Stuarts. You'll have the optional opportunity to explore the visitor centre and site and pay tribute to those who lost their lives at the last battle fought on British soil. After this visit, we'll take a short drive to the ancient standing stones at Clava Cairns, which may have been the inspiration for Craigh na Dun. After lunch, continue to Castle Leod, “home of the Clan MacKenzie,” where you can enjoy a relaxing walk while your guide tells you the history of the clan and area. The castle resembles how Diana Gabaldon described Castle Leoch; however, she had never heard of this building before writing Outlander. A short drive takes you to Beauly, the site of Beauly Priory and the tomb of Lord Lovat in the heart of Clan Fraser lands. Beauly Priory is a beautiful 13th-century ruin and is where the Lovat Frasers were buried in Diana Gabaldon’s book. In the afternoon, you can sample ‘The Water of Life’ with an optional whisky distillery tour and tasting. We'll return to Inverness with time to explore the town and enjoy the city for another evening. (B)

Day 3 Inverness | Fort William   Your day begins with a visit to the majestic Glen Affric. Lochs, mountains and pine forests: this is one of Scotland’s most glorious glens. It’s also an ideal spot for Jamie to hide. You'll then continue along the entire length of Loch Ness and through the Great Glen before heading to Glenfinnan. The monument here commemorates the beginning of the last Jacobite rising. It stands framed by Loch Shiel and beside a famous section of the Jacobite Steam Train railway line, famously used as the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter. Your overnight stop is in Fort William underneath the shadow of Britain’s tallest mountain, Ben Nevis. (B)

Inverness

Day 4 Fort William | Trossachs | Doune Castle | Edinburgh   Be moved by the sheer beauty of Glencoe and see two of Scotland’s quintessential castles, Doune Castle and Blackness Castle. We'll start the day with a magnificent drive through Glencoe and cross the rugged Trossachs area on to Doune Castle. The castle is an extensive ruin that represents Castle Leoch in the TV programme, home to Colum MacKenzie and his clan in the 18th-century episodes. Later, you have a photo stop at Blackness Castle on the banks of the Firth of Forth. This castle was the set for Fort William in the show and appeared in many other movies because of its beautiful setting and thickly fortified walls. You'll return to Edinburgh and expect to arrive back around 7:00 pm. (B)

PRICE INCREASES: All prices advertised in the brochure are calculated using fixed costs at the time of publication. These costs are dependent on fuel costs, rates of exchange and other factors and should these change the Tour Operator reserves the right to increase the price. However, should a price increase be greater than 7% the consumer has the right to cancel the contract for travel services and be refunded the total amount paid to the Tour Operator, unless the increase is as a result of Government imposed taxes or fuel surcharges approved by the Canadian Transportation Agency. Cancellation of Services: The Tour Operator will have no responsibility beyond the refund of all monies received in the event of certain services being cancelled. The refund will be deemed to constitute full and final settlement. HOTEL RATINGS: CIT TOURS has no control over the official star grading appointed to each hotel, as in Europe hotels are allocated their star grading by the Regional Tourist Authority, based on certain predetermined criteria. We have indicated this grading next to each hotel’s description. The official star rating and price will give a good indication of the standard and range of facilities you can expect. Air-conditioning is often controlled by each hotel and restricted according to weather conditions or available mid-June to mid- September only.

TOuR OPERATOR Responsibility: The Tour Operator (herein referred to as CIT) takes great care in making arrangements with suppliers of services (i.e.: airlines, hotels, ground transportation companies, cruise lines, etc.), which together form the travel services you have purchased. CIT acts solely as agents for suppliers, the suppliers are independent parties over which CIT exercises no direct control. CIT shall not be liable for any claims, losses, damages, costs, expenses, delays or loss of enjoyment of any nature or kind whatsoever, to you or your travelling companions or group members, resulting from the acts, omissions or negligence of anyone other than us or our employees acting properly on our behalf. Law, tariffs or conditions on tickets may also limit suppliers’ liability and in particular, you should read and understand the limitations of liability set forth in the airline ticket or cruise documentation. A travel agent who sells or offers to sell travel services to a customer shall promptly provide the customer(s) a copy of the CIT travel brochure. The agent shall inform the passenger of the need to read the terms and conditions of this brochure. We strongly recommend that you consider the various types of insurance products offered by CIT. NOTICE TO TRAVELLERS: Travellers should be aware that different living standards and practices may exist outside of Canada including but not limited to: provision of utilities, e.g. water and electricity; air-conditioning; accommodations; services of all kinds; food; food preparation; and water quality. CIT shall not be responsible for any loss, damage or injury resulting from different living standards. CIT shall not be responsible for any loss resulting from delay, inclement weather, strikes, government actions, civil unrest or any other event beyond CIT's control.

Documentation: Travel documents are issued and sent to your travel agent no later than 14 days prior to departure. For reservations that include hotel accommodation, excursions, tours, villas and/or a car rental a voucher is provided in order for you to receive the services booked. It is your responsibility to obtain, at your expense, all documentation required by the relevant government authorities, including those for your return to Canada. Ask your travel agent for details. Customs and / or immigration officials, at their own discretion, can deny a traveller entry into their country. CIT cannot be held responsible for denied entry under any circumstances.

Refunds: No refunds or adjustments will be made for any portion of the trip or attendant services not taken or used.

Customer Service: CIT must be given every opportunity to resolve customer complaints in destination. All concerns must be addressed to the supplier’s customer service department in Europe (contact details are supplied with tickets). Only unresolved Customer Service issues, which were properly addressed in destination, can be submitted in writing within 30 days after termination of scheduled travel dates. Claims or demands received after 30 days will not be responded to. Please allow 90 days for processing and include any documents with correspondence. All correspondence must be directed through the travel agent of record. CIT is not responsible for any representations made by travel agents, hotel employees or suppliers of any kind. No agent or representative of CIT may waive any provisions of these Terms & Conditions. The invalidity of any provision contained herein shall not affect the validity of any other provision.
