hurchill Downs Racetrack today announced that multi-platinum recording artist Harry Connick, Jr. will sing our national anthem at the 143rd Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands on Saturday, May 6, 2017.
The multiple Grammy and Emmy award-winning entertainer and host and executive producer of his own nationally syndicated entertainment show HARRY, will perform “The Star-Spangled Banner” live for more than 160,000 fans at the Kentucky Derby. The performance will take place in the Kentucky Derby Winner’s Circle just after 5:00 p.m. EDT and be broadcast live as part of NBC’s Kentucky Derby coverage. “We are excited for Harry Connick, Jr. to perform our national anthem for the millions of Derby fans across the globe,” said Kevin Flanery, President of Churchill Downs Racetrack. “He’s one of the finest entertainers in the world and his performance will help make 2017 another great year at the Kentucky Derby.” Harry Connick, Jr. has exemplified excellence in every aspect of the entertainment world. He has received recognition with multiple Grammy and Emmy awards as well as Tony nominations for his live and recorded musical performances, his achievements on screens large and small, and his appearances on Broadway as both an actor and a composer. The debut season of his new daytime TV Show HARRY was recently recognized with five Emmy nominations, including a nomination for best host. 11.

arry Connick Jr. is the ninth artist to perform the national anthem since Churchill Downs began the tradition in 2009. Past artists who performed the national anthem are Lady Antebellum (2016), Josh Groban (2015), Jo Dee Messina (2014), Martina McBride (2013), Mary J. Blige (2012), Jordin Sparks (2011), Rascal Flatts (2010) and LeeAnn Rimes (2009).
The $2 million Kentucky Derby takes place on the first Saturday in May at historic Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Inaugurated in 1875, the legendary 1 1/4-mile race for three-year-olds is the oldest continuously held major sporting event in North America and the first leg of horse racing’s challenging Triple Crown series. Also known as the “The Run for the Roses,” “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports” and “America’s Race,” the Kentucky Derby is the most attended horserace in the nation, with more than 160,000 attendees in 2016.

ountry music’s hottest night of the year turned it up a notch as host Charles Esten (“Nashville”) led an all-star party featuring first-time musical mash-ups, record-breaking wins and an all-star tribute to the late Gregg Allman.
Keith Urban owned the night with four wins including “Video of the Year” (his third time winning the top honor) and “Male Video of the Year” for “Blue Ain’t Your Color,” “Collaborative Video of the Year” with Carrie Underwood for “The Fighter,” as well as “#SOCIALSUPERSTAR Award presented by Pepsi,” notching his first wins since 2010. Underwood gave a shout out to the Nashville Predators after winning “Female Video of the Year” for “Church Bells,” to break her own record for most wins in the awards’ show history with a grand total of 17. Urban and Underwood performed “The Fighter,” delighting and surprising fans by slowly building to a fiery ending. Lauren Alaina gave a teary-eyed acceptance after winning her first-ever “CMT Music Award” for “Breakthrough Video of the Year” for “Road Less Traveled.” Additional winners included Florida Georgia Line for “Duo Video of the Year” for “H.O.L.Y.,” Little Big Town for “Group Video of the Year” for “Better Man” and Jason Derulo/Luke Bryan for “CMT Performance of the Year” for “Want to Want Me.” The night was filled with unforgettable performances that spanned genres and decades. The show kicked off with a celebration of the life and music of the late Gregg Allman. Country superstars Jason Aldean, Darius Rucker and Charles Kelley wowed the audience with an acapella version of “Midnight Rider” before seguing into a full on jam featuring former Allman Brothers band member Derek Trucks, while images of Allman filled Music City Center, earning a standing ovation.

icking off their genre-defying THE SMOOTH TOUR 2017 over the weekend with two red-hot concerts in Texas, boundary-pushing superstars FLORIDA GEORGIA LINE have just upped the ante for all future Country music tours. The duo’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley rocked gigantic, high-energy crowds each night with stops Friday (6/2) in Austin and Saturday (6/3) in Dallas. Their patented mix of Country heart, Hip-Hop swagger and Rock ‘n’ Roll muscle was the perfect cap for a party vibe that also had fans singing along with special guests NELLY, CHRIS LANE and MORGAN WALLEN. The launch was just the beginning of what’s sure to be one of the summer’s hottest concert events as FGL lit the fuse on a trek that continues through late October. With dates scheduled from Washington to Florida – and everywhere in between – they’ll headline their first-ever stadium concerts in Boston (7/7), Minneapolis (7/29) and Chicago (8/12). Those historic dates will feature Pop idols BACKSTREET BOYS, who are also featured on FGL’s latest PLATINUM-certified single, “God, Your Mama, And Me.”
Getting in the zone, FGL and BACKSTREET BOYS team up Tuesday (6/6) for a performance of “God, Your Mama, And Me” on THE ELLEN DEGENERES SHOW (check local listings). Full of romantic devotion and heart-swelling harmonies, the track is featured on FGL’s chart-topping album DIG YOUR ROOTS (BMLG Records). The Top 5-and-rising single has been streamed over 29 million times on Spotify alone. On Wednesday (6/7), FGL will perform their special “Last Day Alive” collaboration with electro-Pop hitmakers The Chainsmokers during the 2017 CMT Music Awards. kicked open the doors to their first restaurant and entertainment destination on Monday night (6/5), inviting hundreds of friends and fans to explore four stories of epic vibes and great times at the Grand Opening party of FGL HOUSE. Standing at 120 3rd Avenue South in the heart of downtown Nashville, FGL HOUSE is a world-class entertainment venue featuring edgy live music, the city’s largest “Cruise” rooftop bar, countless personal touches and much more – all designed to welcome guests inside FGL’s anything-goes world. FGL’s Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley were both in the house as guests sampled Southern-inspired food with a California twist and sipped custom craft cocktails. Some of the duo’s closest VIP friends – “Elvis” was even spotted – made their way around the one-of-a-kind venue. The duo also gave visitors a sneak peek of their hilarious new BK-directed music video for “SMOOTH” (more details coming soon).
